Læsø is the largest island in the North Sea bay of Kattegat, and is located 19 kilometres off the northeast coast of the Jutland Peninsula, the Danish mainland. Læsø is also the name of the municipality on that island.

We were in for a nice surprise visiting "Saltsyderiet", learning about how salt was made in historic times and further experiencing how this museum had developed into a small business making gourmet salt distributed and sold for extremely high prices by high end food retailers etc. all over the country.
We were visiting with 3 teenagers and it was entertaining and fun to be introduced to the craftsman-like "industrial proces"... a little bit of chemistry - great storytelling.

I would encourage anyone going to Læsø to visit Storhaven. It really is quite unique with its abundance of animals (donkeys, hens, pigs, sheep, geese, rabbits, kittens etc.) and everyone is welcome to roam around freely. As well as playing with the animals, visitors can buy the farm's homemade ice cream and other local produce. The owner of the farm, Henning, a roof thatcher by trade, mills and sells his own flour on the farm - we baked with it, it's wonderful. We visited Storhaven twice during our week on Læsø and, for young and old, it really was the highlight of our trip.

The very unique thing about this museum is that the roof is made out of sea weed. There are only a few places in the world where roofs are made from sea weed. It has a nice display and plenty of rooms to explore.

Vesterø havn is a great place in the morning you can buy cheap fish and lobsters from the fishing boats and in the evening you can get a good meal from the restaurants and have a nice evening stroll after with the sunset in the background.

What a lovely visit. The glass was beautiful. Be prepared to purchase because you cannot leave without something in your bag.

Destination for a light, and late, lunch after golf. Chose a small café over the car park on the fishing port side. Menu was basic but fresh bisque was superb and enjoyed with a glass of excellent wine from proprietors' daughter's vineyard in Australia.
Early season so lots of room in the car park, well-stocked supermarket with produce to serve the tastes of the yachtie community; intriguing shopping outlets with the usual range of Danish design; more upmarket restaurant (wrong time of day for us when we booked elsewhere that evening); and no doubt other attractions that we didn't have time to investigate.
Took a walk around the working harbour, saw lots of interest, yachts, tourist info, toilets all set up ready for the seasonal influx.
Seemed to be a typical, peaceful, working harbour of interest to the mature visitor.
