The Baker is such a gorgeous river. Fun fishing, although best with a boat. My spouse did a raft trip which he enjoyed. The kids and I just hung out at the Casa Del Rio Konaiken cabins (near Green Baker Lodge - I can't recommend these cabins highly enough - absolutely fabulous and a great deal: new ownership - phone: Carolina 78913056, cash only). We also went down to the Baker and Neff confluence - absolutely stunning. If you don't have a car, you can hitchhike (as we did) to the confluence - enough traffic to make that work. We did the whole thing as a family of 4 hitchhiking or using public transit no problems (this was during February 2015 - crossed over from Argentina to Villa O'Higgins, arranged a transfer to Caleta Tortel, bus to Cochrane, hitchiked into Parque Patagonia and then hitchhiked up to Puerto Bertrand, then bus to Rio Tranquillo, and a bus onward to Coyaique).

I took several kayak tour on my trip throught carretera austral, this was the best one. The place was great, really remote and quiet, ending the journey on a hidden waterfall that you can only see walking throught a river stream . the guide was really nice and profesional, and the gear was of high quality

The road to Puerto tranquillo is amazing. So beautiful. If you have the time stay a night and go to caves in the am. I thought the were ok. The solar eclipse rose the water 6 feet according to tour. Get a small boutique or kayak. Much better experience and photos. Get bus when you can! Not alot

This is a top level installation in the middle of the Chilean Patagonia. We had lunch in the main building, looking at the Guanacos while they walk freely in the park, just in front of you.
We visit the Organic Garden, where you can find cherry tomatoes, kale, and fresh mint, it is really amazing.
There is also a lodge where you can stay, we just visited the Park for some hours. Also you have a lot of alternatives to visit, either trekking, walking or simply driving.
Don’t miss it if you are in Cochrane.

We spent a morning touring with Arcadio Soto on his boat. Started at Puerto Bertrand into Lake Bertrand, Lake Plomo and Baker River. Finished the trip having lunch at Doña Leticia's Restaurant (Arcadio's wife). A warm place where to taste local healthy food. Thanks for the comment!! We are happy to read those words, its mean than we are on the right path. Regards, and we are looking forward to you next visit!!

El pueblo de la junta, tiene a mi parecer pocos atractivos turísticos, es una zona pequeña sin fuentes de agua cercanas, por lo que la cerveza local se ha vuelto una alternativa diferente para potenciar el turismo local

The Exploradores Glacier is a retreating glacier formed from the northern icefield of Chilean Patagonia.
We booked this tour through Hotel El Puesto who has its own guide Rodrigo. The day before we checked with some of the many stalls along the main road. but some told us that their tour was fully booked, (14 persons in a bus).
With our private guide Rodrigo (Rodri, Go!) and slightly more expensive tour we could leave an hour later from Rio Tranquilo than the group tours. The fitting out of the crampons was in their own shed at the park entrance.
The walk through the forest park up to the mirador was fairly easy, but going over the three ridges of 50 m high morene was more difficult. In several places we needed to climb over the boulders as goats. Luckely we had gloves to protect our hands.
Once on the glacier we fitted the crampons and walked along the ice ridges.
Some pictures in a large hole, everyone taking its turn.
Lunch on the ice and than heading back over the three morene hills.
Total walking/climbing time 2 x 2 hrs. Lunch 1 hr. Driving time 2 x 1.5 hrs.

we had another great time rafting down the Rio Baker with Baker Patagonia Aventura. The guides are very friendly, safe and very competent. There are also very helpful and let me use their computer to advise our next destination that we would be coming a bit late. The guide Thomas is very friendly and fun and it is obvious that with him there is nothing to worry about. We already went down the river with him 2 years ago. We will come back and do the floating trip for a whole day. It sounds awesome.
