Kyle of Lochalsh (from the Scottish Gaelic Caol Loch Aillse, "strait of the foaming loch") is a village on the northwest coast of Scotland, 63 miles (100 km) west of Inverness. It is located on the Lochalsh peninsula, at the entrance to Loch Alsh, opposite the village of Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye. A ferry used to connect the two villages until it was replaced by the Skye Bridge, about a mile (2 km) to the west, in 1995.

We travelled this route in both directions. On the outward journey it was very busy due to two coach parties. However, staff were helpful and we were seated throughout. Quieter on return. Snack and drinks trolley available. The views along the stretch of Loch Carron are out of this world as the train loops around towards Plockton. Lived up to its name as one of the most beautiful railway journeys. Comfortable and highly recommended.

This picturesque castle, built in 1220, holds the title of the most photographed castle in Scotland.
A stunning castle constructed in the 12th/13th century to protect and defend the lands of Kintail against Vikings. Steeped in history of battles and invasions that resulted in parts of the castle being destructed, the castle underwent reconstruction works which were completed in 1932. There is an onsite visitors centre complete with coffee and gift shops.

We went on the Seaprobe Atlantis last week with our two kids (3 and 6) and all of us had an enjoyable time on the tour. The boat guide was great about telling guests when to be up top, and when to go down below to view the glass windows depending on the area we were cruising. He was also very knowledgeable about the sea life. It was a great way to engage our kids into the wildlife in this part of the world and they enjoyed seeing the seals and starfish.

Picked up at Kyle of Lochalsh station on 10 Jun 17 by a minibus Taxi....bad start...taxi driver's opening words "I have just had a phone call 11 mins ago to pick you up so good luck with that and we'll see how the day goes".He tried his best but obviously had no training in guided tours. We were unable to complete the full itinerary and it had an effect on the other couple on the tour as well.Difficulty hearing what he was trying to tell us as there was no microphone on the bus...overall a disappointing day...made a complaint with Skye Tours when we arrived home and received a prompt full refund from Seaprobe Atlantis...so sad as we were so looking forward to the trip

Well worth the effort, but you should allow about six hours to complete the walk and be prepared for some rough terrain. It is a fairly standard Scottish hill walk and should be possible for most reasonably fit walkers who are well prepared and equipped with boots, an OS map and compass. The Falls are at their best after some days of rain, so timing of the expedition may be important.
The usual start of the walk is from near the Kintail Centre at Morvich, off the A87 about 15 miles from Kyle of Lochalsh. From here, the path is mostly fairly distinct but quite steep in parts. It leads along the side of a hill eventually up to a more open plateau area which can be confusing if you do lose the path in misty conditions.
For the best views of Falls themselves a steep scramble down to a viewpoint is necessary. The vertigo factor is high - this is not a place to have a slip! The ravine is 200 metres deep.
On the trudge back to the starting point we were warmed by a sense of achievment but left in no doubt why Glomach is Gaelic for "gloomy".
You are unlikely forget a trip to the Falls of Glomach!

We quite enjoyed our tour of Skye ans saw the attractions along the east coast. The website says:" (the driver) has knowledge of local myths and legends, of giants, fairies and dinosaurs, strange tales of mythical beasts, monsters and people. He will tell you about the wildlife and the stunning scenery." However on asking for some stories, myths and legends, I was told to look them up on Google!

We enjoyed the most spectacular scenery, we saw an abundance of gorgeous seals and...MoreWe are so pleased that you had a good time on Red Moon and we hope to welcome you back very soon! Mary & Scott

The information centre and shop on the station helps support the Friends of the Kyle railway. Volunteers travel on some trains to give information but what they have to sell is a bit limited

We spent a week in Kyleakin and Skye. We went to this shop 3 times! Beautiful merino wool and cashmere sweaters(ladies and men's) scarves, mittens, ponchos and blankets (rugs). Harris tweed items, leather handbags, clothing, jewelry, lambs wool slippers. Yarn for knitters. Kids clothing, many hats and CDs. Locally made items (beautiful jewelry and knit items when we visited). Many more things too.
We bought several things that we had never seen in any other shop during our 2 week holiday. Prices are very reasonable too. BUT, we really went back to visit the shop owner, Elspeth! Had loads of fun sitting on her couch and meeting other local shoppers. Felt like the neighborhood coffee shop!
I did end up calling after our trip was over and had a few items shipped that I regretted not buying. Birgit was very helpful and I received all items quickly.
Would go back often if I lived closer!!
