Ettumanoor Mahadeva temple is an ancient Shiva temple in Kottayam, Kerala. Ezhara Ponnana, the annual festival, at the Temple is a popular and historic one.
The story of Ezhara Ponnana is linked to the king’s rule. Ezhara means seven-and-a-half and Ponnana means golden elephant. Made of wood and covered in gold, each of the seven elephants is two feet high and the eighth one is of one foot only. Hence they are together called seven-and-a-half elephants. The Ezhara Ponnana procession being held in the last day (10th day) of the festival.

Munnar is famous and attractive with dams, rivers and wild life, Ramakkal is attractive with winds and Mountains. However, Vagamon is unique with her lush green hillocks and mild temperature. An awesome kayaking experience through the Kumarakom backwaters. Being a first timer on kayak didn't make much difference. Even my father and father-in-law enjoyed it. A slow motion ride through the tranquil backwaters, serene landscape, traditional houses and shops on the shores made if an unforgettable experience. The bird watching a surprise treat. Our coach was very helpful, a know-it-all nature lover and a cool buddy. Kudos to him for organizing this for us.:-)

Visited this place on a weekend and it was crowded. After an accident few months back, they have started jeep facility to the top and do not allow private vehicles to the top. Parking is not free, but there is space to park. The place is steep, hence dangerous as well. Heard from the people that couple of months ago, couple of college students lost their lives after falling from the view point.
The place is beautiful. Since I visited during the rainy season, the place was lush green with fog. Roads are in good condition, mostly. Definitely recommended for anyone travelling to Vagamon.

I visited here with my partner yesterday and we both thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The collection of driftwood sculptures is impressive but even more so is the passion and energy from the curator. If you are in the area it is a must-go. We talked about it the whole way home in our tuktuk.
I hope she achieves her wish- to make it into the Guinness book of records; it would be well deserved!!

I included this visit during my pilgrimage trip to Kerala in Feb 2017. Though a born Hindu and by faith, I respect all other religions and their faiths as well . After all , Almighty is one and we visualise HIM in different forms . I had a lurking desire to visit St Alphonsa's church and tomb, after Reading St Alphonsa's life history in internet. Her suffering all through her short life and , her steadfast faith on Jesus and surrender to HIM for everything she suffered in life , and how so many miracles took place and prayers granted for those who had approached her with all their problems and worries , created a special desire in me to visit this place and pay my respects and offer my prayers as well..
Actually St Alphonsa's church and tomb within , is located in the huge premises of very old St Mary's church in Bharananganam. May be the vast area we see to day might have been acquired later to expand and include St Alphonsa's church as well. A very special peaceful place with fantastic discipline maintained by those visiting the place added to the serenity and spiritual feeling. This is what I felt after visiting both the churches. It was a very satisfying and moving experience for me .at my first visit to this church. May St Mary and St Alphonsa bless all.
Bharananganam can be approached from Kottayam. It is just under 30 km by road. Plenty of buses go to Pala from Kottayam either to Pala directly , or via Pala to other places. From Pala it is just 5 Km to Bharanaganam and the church. You can comfortably stay at Kottayam and do this trip in half a day by bus or taxi.from Kottayam..
. May the noble soul of St Alphonsa pray for us . Vaidyanathan HariHaran
