Ko Chang means “Elephant Island,” and indeed, if you’d like an up-close-and-personal encounter with the world’s largest land mammal, you can do that here—you can even swim with them at Ban Kwan Chang, an elephant preserve recommended by TripAdvisor travelers. In the past few years, the island has experienced a huge boom in tourism, so new hotels and restaurants abound.

I’ve seen way more better Beaches on my many island holidays in Thailand. Pretty touristic but not that busy as seen on other Beaches. There are a few decent restaurants and bars but still nothing special.
If you’re on Koh Chang you should take the time to explore the island and the many secluded Beaches it has to offer.

We've been all over the island of Koh Chang and Kai Bae did not have the relaxed atmosphere we were hoping for. The further you go down south on the island, the more authentic and relaxed the vibe becomes. Kai Bae feels very touristy and has a hasty atmosphere we recognize from other tourist places.
This is obviously not a bad thing if that's what you're looking for, but for some peace and quiet you're better off near Bang Bao.

Must visit place on island. the biggest waterfall where everyone visits. The water quantity depends on season, less in summer but still beautiful. 500 meters by walk from parking area. Pay the entrance fee and give it to staff before get in. Water is cold and deep but you can swim because there is life guard standby.

Terrible.... we were unlucky enough to be here on a Saturday. Literally hundreds of local tourists with life jackets and dozens of boats... Not recommended....

Just spent a month at Kong Koi, relaxing and enjoying the warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand. Be prepared for extremely hot and humid conditions, but these made bearable by the many beach resorts, bars and restaurants, and shady trees under which one can escape the burning sun. From 5 star resorts to unpretentious guest houses, Kong Kloi can satisfy all tastes and pockets. Paddle boarding, kayaking, massages, strolling along the beach, sun bathing, and good eating and drinking are the order of the day. A fifteen minute walk , or 5 minutes by scooter, gets you to Bang Boa pier with its colourful market, restaurants and harbour for dive and pleasure boats. Kong Kloi is a great place to relax and unwind, with your only concern being where, from a multitude of eateries, to eat your next meal.

The beach is a bit distant from the Pier (there are taxis in between, both land and sea). The sand and water is nice, the green trees are growing close to the beach and sometimes hanging out over the water. The beach is quite narrow and the restaurants and bars are more towards the simple (but still fresh and friendly) standard. I would recommend this beach more for youngsters and backpackers. The Pier however is worthwile a visit for shopping, basically because this was the only place were we could find a broader assortment than the tshirts etc along the streets in Kai Bae, Klong Prao, White Sands. We stayed at Klong Prao and made a day tour to Bao Bang. Most of the day my grown up son and I spent at the beach (and enjoyed it), then we spent 1,5h at the pier shopping before returning by taxi to our hotel.
