The temple was built in 827AD by one of the disciples of the great Kobo-daishi. The main hall of the temple (Kondo) is designated a national treasure and there are other historic sites within the compound, like the tomb of Emperor Gomurakami. There is also the statue of the seated goddess of mercy which is another national treasure.
Walking around the temple offers a nice and peaceful time. Now that it is the season for red leaves, it is also a great time to take some nice photos.

One of the staff members at the South Square ordered me to put the bike, which I used, to over there. He ordered! With no smile. In a bureaucratic way. I thought that I had done something criminal. We rarely find such attitudes in Japan these days.
And "over there"? Can't he say, like "to that white line", "next to that red bike, and so on? It seemed he thought I was his men...
If it's their rule, I am ready to follow it, but he didn't do that to all visitors for the reasons I can't understand.
I told him that he should not behave impolitely to the customers and asked him his name because his nameplate was put so improperly that it couldn't be read. He didn't answer so I turned the nameplate over to find his name. When I did that, he gave his name.
They should have inform us how to use before we actually use. They're so amateurish.
Everything is old but well maintained. I believe the staff have good skill except for handling visitors. They are not accustomed to having many customers.
Good for families with children from 3 to 10, I think. I recommend visiting on weekdays.

Thanks to fellow traveller for introducing this farm, we had an enjoyable day trip at the Savor Farm. The farm is about an hour ride from the city and upon reaching Tondabayashi Station, you need to take the hourly shuttle bus (ie 9am, 10am, 11am, 12 pm, 2:30pm, 3:30 pm, 4:30 pm) to the farm as it's 15 mins ride away from the Station. The farm covers a wide area and beside growing strawberry, grapes, there are vegetables as well as flowers. Strawberry picking start from 9:30 am and close at 2:30 pm.

We arrived by bus before lunch and splashed around in the shallow river next to the restaurant. The water is clean and good for kids to paddle around in. The restaurant was busy but an automated reservation system meant we could explore the area while we waited - we got a call when our table was ready. The food was delicious and all locally sourced produce. All you can eat for ¥1500. After lunch we checked out the botanical garden and wood working shop. Definitely will come back for lunch again.
