The capital of the state of Sikkim, Gangtok is an attractive tourist destination, reflecting a unique ambience which derives from its happy blend of tradition and modernity. Alongside the deeply felt presence of stupas and monasteries, Gangtok also bustles like any other thriving town. Some of the key places to visit include Rumtek Monastery, Do-Drul Chorten, Enchey Monastery, Tashi View Point and the local bazaar, Lal Bazaar.

It's not that simple to visit Nathula Pass. You need to plan and book atleast a day in advance. Your hotel or tour planner can do this easily for you. You need to provide an id proof and Rs 5000 for a taxi. Please note that you can not take your vehicle up there, you need a registered taxi that will be approved in the permit granted to you/your hotel or trip planner. You need to start early as there are timing restrictions. It's a beautiful ride, almost 2-3hrs offering gorgeous views of the valley. Since only limited number of vehicles are permitted upto Nathula Pass, almost 20 mins before Nathula Pass, the passengers of two cabs were shifted into one. Once you park the vehicle, you need to walk and climb a good number of stairs. Please note that the oxygen level is quite low at that level and you will feel short of breath. Though it was not snowing when we visited but the wind was absolutely chilly. Once you climb up and reach the pass, the feeling is great. You are right there at India- China border with China just a step away from the rope. You can see China's bunkers, the ancient Silk route and beautiful mountain ranges extending upto Bhutan and Tibet. The soldiers give you detailed brief of the area around and you feel proud of Army serving nation at such high altitude. On the way back to Gangtok, you can visit Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir and Tsongmo lake. A tiring day, well spent!!!

Visited Tsomgo lake and baba mandit in March 2018. We had to wait for permits for 2 days since weather there was not ok. It was worth the wait as the whole trip seemed like fantasy
The whole stretch from Tsomgo to Baba mandir was covered in snow. The mountain ranges were clearly visible as the weather was just perfect
A must do when in Sikkim...

Amazing place ... it's so well planned and clean and lively, that you would love to spend your evening time here . It's kid friendly as no vehicles are allowed inside the market. This 1 km stretch is heaven for food, drinks and tea lovers . Shopping is bit costly but worth looking. Just relax and admire the ambience . Start to close by 9pm.

Nice place of remembrance I initially thought it was a temple of some hindu god. But it was of Harbhajan singh baba. I also got to play with snow around this place.... really nice to see indian flag and indian army at this remote place.

Really beautiful zoological park which looks less like a zoo but more like a national park.. huge enclosures for the wild animals.. the place doesnt have a huge variety but the red panda and the snow leopard are a must visit
They also have a breeding center for the red panda
They allow vehicle entry till 3 30 pm and exit by 4 30 pm.. thats what they said
Not sure how true as ppl were pouring in even afterward

Thangkas depicting various aspects of Lord Buddha, 1000+ years old manuscripts on handmade paper, papyrus, cloth are very neatly preserved here. Various aspects of Lord Buddha ( worshipped in Vajrayana sect) are sculpted in various alloys. Gives an idea about metallurgical acumen of Tibetan people many many centuries ago. Gives overview of Lepcha people too. Students of Tibetology and Vajrayana must visit this place.

Buddhist monasteries tend to look a bit alike after few visits, but I liked this one, the paintings were very beautiful, the place was peaceful, some monks were chanting so we stopped to listen to them. I guess it is a good place for meditation if you are able to meditate!
