Castello di Sammezzano

Reviewed By AlexandrinaDragomir - Timisoara

By pure luck, beeing in Siena for Palio,we discovered that only for 2 days the Castle of Sammezzano is open to public,so we rushed there.
We parked our car at the hill's foot and after 30 minutes of climbing thru a beautiful park we were able to enter in this fairy tell castle.
It was an organised tour,30 people once,a very competent guide who presented(in Italian only) the story behind the owner and building of this piece of art.
Our eyes and our hearts was overwhelmed by the colours of all rooms and the beautiful story of this place.
The last room, the Peackok room was totally stunning ,there was nearly 2 hours of amazingly beauty.
On the way out,you can have a brochure and some post cards, and, also if you want, you can donate an amount for castle reconstruction.
If you're around, make yourself a treat and check out ,maybe you also could visit this treasure.

Sergio was a delight to spend the day with as we visited and toured two different wineries in the Chianti region of Tuscany last month. He was really knowledgeable about wine as well as the region that we toured. For tastings, Sergio took us to two fabulous wineries where we both felt welcomed, interested, and of course, well-fed and hydrated! For lunch, he brought us to a beautiful spot overlooking a vineyard where we had a front row table and an incredible view. Additionally, he encouraged us to stop at multiple picturesque locations and he took our picture. Spending the day with Sergio was interesting, tasty, relaxing, and stress-free. We would highly recommend using Sergio to anyone interested in touring the area and will absolutely book with him again next time we visit!

This town has a small old part with mostly local people off the tourist areas.
Nice location and great agroturismo with top views and friendly staff in the area.
For relaxing, hiking, views and the small town feeling, nothing much else there other than the area's top restaurant, the very Italian Osteria Setteponti, but that one is worth a multiple visit if you are into simple, good qualily traditional local food. Great place to practice your Italian :)

I am like a kid in a sweet shop when I go here, far to many choices, and as a diabetic thats not a good thing, but I always give in to my temptations in this Pasticceria. I try to stick to the variety of mini tasty sandwiches they have to offer but there cakes are just screaming at me from the counter and they always end up winning, with a caffe latte I'm in my element with my plate of goodies. I once reccommended this place to a dutch customer who after visiting this place, his wife sent him here every morning for breakfast.

Headlined as such on my review of the specific Gucci store, but this outlet complex is all relative to budget: the brands are high-end so the prices are, but at 30, 50, 70% off, it's definitely worth the trip.
The shuttle bus service is excellent.
The setting is very picturesque as is the landscaping.
Special mention to the very helpful and friendly staff at Gucci and Fendi.
A strategy is to chose all of your purchases, then go back and collect them all before you leave.
And check the prices - some areas have extra reductions on top of reductions, but the item price labels haven't been updated.

Tough drive to but once we got there we really enjoyed the wine tasting in the beautiful setting of a small family winery. The fields envelope the cascading Mountains as fas as the eye can see. This is wine country. If you came to be in awe then you will not be disappointed.
We loved the wine so much, we decided to buy a few bottles. 4 months later are still waiting for the wine purchase, or good customer service from the winery in at least trying to get it sent to one of the multiple address with have provided. They sell wine so you might assume they are accustom to the shipping process of wine to America and capable of making this happen. But alas we are still waiting for the wine or a refund.
Fantastic wine tasting that sadly ended sour and very expensive as the wine is stuck in a UPS center, with neither UPS or the winery able to collaborate to send it to a US address.
Sangiovese wine soured by logistics and bureaucracy. But, if in Italy you must take a visit.

Casa della Civilta Contadina di Gaville

In 1974 an early collection of rural tools and machines was gathered up in Gaville by a group of enthusiastic local friends with the purpose of protecting the material signs of rural life. Year after year the collection continued to grow and thanks to an increasing number of enthusiasts the cultural association “Rural Civilization Museum” was eventually set up in 1988. Now the museum is the keeper of a collection of 7000 pieces and its members together with the Provveditore Pier Luigi Righi are working hard to preserve this cultural heritage. The collection is placed in the rooms next to the thousand-year old Romanesque parish church of San Romolo in Gaville. In 2012 this place was named “House of the rural culture”. Tourists, groups and students can visit the museum with a guide. Every year an average of 2000 visitors comes to the museum. In addition to this, many people join us during the Spring town festival in May or the ancient crafts fair in October and our participation in the important food farming event called Autumnia in Figline Valdarno on the 2nd week of November is really appreciated . The House of the rural culture is twinned with 40 similar museums in Italy and Europe. We do not want to regret a world of extreme poverty and cruel social inequality, but we are worried about the loss of the values of the rural society. The tools we see in the museum of Gaville are very important, they are far from our daily life but they can speak to the young as well as an artwork. The House of the rural culture is not only an exhibit but also a historical documentation center. The project aims to provide the old people with nostalgic memories and the young with the knowledge of their roots.
