One of the main tourist destinations in the region where beauty and hospitality are offered by the Lago Azu. There is am Anchorage and gasoline for boats.
The road to access this was a bit minimalist but the lake was nice and had different pools for different ages as well as life guards (not the sort we have in Australia, but still reassuring). There was a pontoon over the lake for the access to the pools, but this can get a bit hot in warmer weather so take thongs. The area of the lake that I went to was a bit short on places to sit out of the sun or keep your belongings or even have a picnic, so this an area where they could improve immensely.

Church founded according to legend, by Queen Santa Isabel in the century. XIII and subsequently sent rebuild the commander of Dornes D. Frei Goncalo de Sousa, dirty coat of arms is inscribed on a tombstone in the main facade. Source: Tourist Guide of Ferreira do Zezere
Dornes itself is a wonderful small village definitely worth visiting, and the church dominates the village's landscape. The church is built in the typical style but what makes is outstanding is the adjacent Templar tower that one can actually climb, too. Try getting here at sunset when all nearby hills are bathing in the sunset rays. Breathtaking.

I enjoyed walking through the halls, cloisters and the rooms that were occupied bybyhe knights tenplar and later the nuns. The simplicity of the life was evident. The two preserved bodies were also interestjng. If you enjoy history i recommend a visit.

The tower of Dornes will certainly surprise you by the form of his construction who is a “Pentagram”, doing so he is a very rare example of the military architecture of that time, and then we are talking about the time from 72 a.C. when he has been constructed on the base of an ancient roman tower. The tower was closed on the moment of our visit, perhaps you can find more info about it into the tourism office of the village. Anyhow nice piece of architecture.

When you are arriving at Dornes, just follow the mean street in the direction of the Tower, and so you will have the “Tourist Office” on your left hand side. The Office was closed on the moment of our arrival, it is small but nice and very clean, it has also on the right side a Terrace from where you have a nice view over the water below where the boats are and the river Beaches.

The views and location is stunning.
There are good areas to camp and shower.
There's a trail that takes you to a lovely waterfall. It can be busy and I would recommend wearing something better than flip flops!
The bar is decent and prices are cheap.
The lake is lovely.

You have to drive to the small village called “Avecasta”. When arriving on a small white chapel located on the right hand side of the narrow road, you will see the indication sign for the “Moinho de Vento” & “Gruta”, this is a narrow dirt road, so drive very slow and carefully. Follow this dirt road for a while and you will arrive on a bifurcation, here turn to your left and uphill in the direction of a “Look Alike of a three” who is just a “Trap” because it is a steel Antenna. And so you arrive on the top to the “Triangular Windmill” who can be turned into the direction of the wind, this thanks to the wooden wheels on the base corners, so he could turn at almost with any wind direction.
After you have made your stop on the windmill, return to the bifurcation and turn left downhill for about 300 meters. Here you can turn and park the car without any problem. Here you can see the “Cave of Avecasta”, on our visit the entrance was closed, but the cave of Avecasta is an arqueoligic station, with signs from the Palaeolithic century, in the year 2013 the cave has been classified as location with public interests.

The aqueduct itself would be an interesting tourist site in most towns, but in Tomar it is the forgotten sister compared to the Convent of Christ, which is spectacular. But if you come to Tomar, you should definitely take a look at it.

You really have to want to go there, because it is a quite steep dirt road. Although closed, the outside of this tiny chapel is beautiful as well as the 360 degrees views.

Located on the opposite side of Rio Nabao (from the old medieval town), this modest church is the final resting place of Gualdim Pais, founder of Tomar. There are also tombs of roughly 20 Knights Templar here along with several Grand Masters. There are many hidden symbols of the Order located within the church. There is usually someone available to help guide you and answer any questions. Note the drinking well located to the right of the church - this was supposedly disguised as an aerating shaft to a tunnel that connected the church to the Convent and Castle atop the hillside on the other side of the river.
