We visit every year we are on holiday in the area, worth the 45min journey for a good family day out. There is a play barn if the weathr is wet and some small fury animals and birds. The food is of the snack kind (there are tables where you can eat your own food, which we recommend).
Our party had children from 2 to 6 years and they had a great day.

This is a rather large hunebed. It is not the largest, but it's a decent size. This one is considered part of a trio because there are two others not too far away. Just like all of the other hunebedden, I would highly recommend this one to compare to the others!

The Hunebed Centrum in the village of Borger on the Drenthe Hondsrug takes you on a journey into prehistory. Back to the time when the first farmers settled in Drenthe… the farmers who built the impressive stone burial monuments known as Hunebeds. The remains of these monuments can still be seen in the Drenthe landscape. There are 54 of them and the largest, D27, stands next to the Hunebed Centrum. Our museum tells the story of these mysterious megalithic tombs and the people who built them. It provides answers to questions such as: who built them and how? And above all, why were they built? For some questions there are no definite answers but we shall try to raise the veil surrounding some of the mysteries. But that’s not all!The Hunebed Centrum regularly organises special activities such as exclusive Exhibitions, markets, walks and so on. We look forward to welcoming you to the Hunebed Centrum.
The Hunebedden are an excellent example of pre-historic human architecture and society. This place, build around the largest of the Hunebedden is an excellent example of the touristy, money-grabbing modern society. First, the Hunebed (D27) is the largest of them all, at about 22 meters. It's beautiful and perfectly balanced. However, the center allows people to climb all over it. Children were standing on the capstones and jumping to try to loosen them (luckily, the architecture is so good that nothing has happened in all these years). The center offers a short movie about the hunebedden and some theories about their use and why they were built, it mainly concentrates on the ice age and how the boulders came to be in the Netherlands. It's not really scientific, and has a lot of conjecture and guessing.
I chose to forego the outdoor exhibits because they looked like more of the same claptrap designed to appeal to children and not really explaining much about the people who built the hunebedden or their lifestyle. The giftshop and the cafe were well overpriced, and the food was not very good.
If you want to see the hunbedden, I suggest going to see some of the others that are scattered across Drenthe. This place was overcrowded and disappointing.

Great attraction park - very reasonably priced (about 12,50 pp I think) which includes food and drink inside (usual Dutch stuff - chips, croquette, frincandel, coffee, juice etc). Means of course that people go there for breakfast lunch and dinner.
The rides are good - variety for all ages so good for a day out for all ages. My kids loved it .

This not you regular zoo. If you want to see loads of animals in a short time: don't go here. It is however a themepark with animals. A fair amount of animals you can see in a natural habitat (as far as that is possible when living in captivity). The shows are a bit simple, but the kids (below 16) will love it. One day visit is more than enough and you will have seen everything there is to see. Expect some queues at the large attractions, just like in a 'real' themepark.

D21 and 22 are a good pair to look at and the information board is informative. If you're interested in prehistoric monuments in Holland, I would recommend these two!

The megalith is near the "Hunnebed Center" so besides visiting the megalith you can also find a lot of background information about these pre-historical monuments.
