Debrecen (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈdɛbrɛt͡sɛn] ( listen)) is Hungary's second largest city after Budapest. It is the regional centre of the Northern Great Plain region and the seat of Hajdú-Bihar county. It was the largest Hungarian city in the 18th century and it is one of the Hungarian people's most important cultural centres. Debrecen was also the capital city of Hungary during the revolution in 1848–1849. During the revolution, the dethronement of the Habsburg dynasty was declared in the Reformed Great Church. The city also served as the capital of Hungary by the end of the World War II in 1944–1945. It is home of the University of Debrecen.

The park itself is nice and well-maintained. Within is the local stadium and a cafe underneath an old water tower, with a viewing platform when the weather is nice. You can get here by trolley from the center of the city in a few minutes.

We came to the Hortobagy National Park with no exceptions and found it amazing. there are several attractions around the center of the village that you can visit such as: walks in the national park to see wild animals; marvelous horse shows and etc. Tip: you can take the train from Debrecen to the Hortobagy. It takes more than an hour but very cheap compare to a taxi from Debrcen (takes 40 minutes, but very expensive).

The Church is very nice. We have been there on the way to the main street. There was a youth performance in the church and festivals outside the church.

Better to choose this program at summer time. We went in January and most of the animals were inside. This zoo is not so big, but not small. Parking is possible near to the entrance. We were lucky because we have seen the baby tapir with her mom. She was sleeping and eating and walking a bit. Her father was outside and wanted to get inside. All the animals were clean and very nice. We had great time. The place with the spiders, frogs, crocodile is amazing. (the most beautiful I have seen in zoos) Recommended.

Louis Kossuth / Kossuth Lajos was a lawyer, a journalist, a politician and a Governor-President of the Kingdom of Hungary during the revolution of 1848–49, celebrated on March 15th. He was so important to Hungary that he has a statue in many cities, including in front of the Parliament in Budapest.
In Debrecen you can find him (and some friends) in front of the large yellow church (Nagyon templom), on a huge center plaza. A nice brass statue.

Was there for business, so only had a small look round, but as its still pretty new, all clean tidy, decent car parking and facilities...

Housed in a wonderfully old building. The museum is full of exhibits but, unless you can read Hungarian you will be able learn about what you are seeing. The lack of English was very disappointing.

My training during the university years was held in the Reformed College of Debrecen's Great Library. What can I say? This library is one of the most beautiful library ever, what I visited. The College tried to keep every furniture and the floor authentic, although there's so new things also (e.g. brand new computers). When I had to write my final novel I could borrow many documents from the Library which was a huge help to me, because they were all almost 100 years old, which means it's hardly to find in anywhere. All of the Library workers were attentive and kind with me. Highly recommend!
