Castlegar Sculpturewalk is an annual exhibition of outdoor sculptures, located on a pleasant walking tour in downtown Castlegar. Viewers are encouraged to vote for their favourite sculpture via ballot - the winner of the People's Choice award is purchased by the City for the permanent collections. All of the artworks are available for sale or lease. Sculpturewalk 2016 features 31 sculptures from local and international artists. Ballots/maps are located in red ballot boxes along the route (the start of the route is at the Kootenay Market (635 Columbia Avenue), though you can begin the walk from anywhere. Ballots/maps are also available at the Castlegar Chamber of Commerce, City Hall, or the Kootenay Gallery.
The Exhibited sculptures are surprisingly diverse in style, artist nationality, subject matter, medium, which keeps my family coming back and bringing visitors along. It's also really enjoyable that the exhibition runs for a full year, and that the walk is outside with no day of the week or hours restrictions because you basically can't miss the exhibit due to lack of time or scheduling! Plus we've discovered that dogs like sculpture - at least the ones that are animals of interest (a colt, an old dog, a burrow) or humans engaged in something the dogs are curious about (like an offered hand)! Who knew?!

We had never heard of the Doukhobor community before. What an interesting story they have...and its all told at this Discovery Centre.
We were particularly interested in their pacifism and their vegetarian diet.
They have a gift shop where I purchased a Doukhobor rug handwoven by Bob Ewashen. He would be interested to know it now resides in Hawaii!

Four months before our arrival date, I had to make campground Reservations and I'll be honest: my first two picks of campgrounds were gone within minutes, so I ended up booking for Syringa (Bighorn) I didn't have high expectations, but we were happily surprised when we arrived at our site. It was right at the water, very spacious and private and we could launch our kayaks right from the site. At night we planted our chairs on the water's edge and gazed out over the lake, it was very peaceful.
We were impressed with the cleanliness of the showers and the amenities of the park in general. Also very nice that they have special areas for dogs to play in the water. I'm sure we'll camp here again in the future.

Castlegar's Golf Club is a championship 18-hole, semi-private course situated above the Columbia River. Our facilities include a fully-stocked golf shop, excellent practice facilities, full service Clubhouse & a new 20 site RV Park. We also offer the following amenities: private lessons, grass tee driving range, practice greens, club rentals & power carts. In 2010, we hosted the BC Amateur and in 2011 the BC Senior games. The championship Castlegar Golf Course has hosted numerous Provincial and National tournaments. A must play on any Kootenay vacation; come and stay in our great new RV Park. Traditional golf in a championship setting.
I've played Castlegar a number of times over the years and I'm always very impressed with the course, and moreso the treatment I've received from the staff.
Everyone at the course is pleasant right from the pro shop, to the restaurant, to the grounds crew.
I'm always excited to visit the Kootenays and to play this scenic, well-maintained, gem of a course again.

Visited the museum when travelling through Castlegar. The staff were friendly and there was no admission charge. The museum consists of 2 floors of artifacts, an old RCMP office and two rail cars. The station (museum) is really a miscellaneous collection of local artifacts without much connection to the rail history of the area. The museum should reflect more rail history and less of a Gramma's attic feel. The caboose was cool though!

35+ years of knowledge and experience fishing the upper Columbia River, licensed guide and president of West Koutenay fly fishing club. Complete fly shop with flies tied for this river and area.
Rod, the owner knows fishing. Stop in to get some stuff for our grandson for Christmas and rod had some beautiful flies for salmon fishing and the cost was well worth them. Just hope they work as good as they look. Many thanks for the kind words. Fly tying is my passion along with fly fishing, the flies should do the trick. tight lines and bent rods. RZ.
