This is a great attraction for people who like walking. You need about four hours for walking all the way (stopping and admiring the nature); when you finish you can take a taxi which drives you back to the place where you’ve parked your car. I did the walk in a mild day; in a hot day I would advise you to go very early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Enjoy!

Really didn't expect it to be so nice. We did some great activities (canyoning and rafting) with "clube do paiva" (tip!) and a really great walk on mount montemuro, from rocks to Forests and authentic old villages. We definitely have to come here again some day.

It's a very interesting place to visit, from what I gather the only place of its kind in all of europe. One thing I could say, though, is that it surely needs more surveillance to prevent people from taking home the rocks (pedras parideiras).

being in Arouca we had to go visit Serra da Freita. going up there was a bit of a challenge but once there it was well worth the drive. the views are amazing and the landscape variety is truly beautiful.

The monastery is the largest white building in Arouca city center, and it used to be a wealthy cistercian monastery for daughters of rich families. The paintings are organized one room per time period, so you get an interesting walk through the centuries. There are also items to show life in the monastery itself. In the evening, the small courtyard with Fountain, flours and fruit trees is beautifully lit.

Im not talking "only" about the Cascata (Waterfall), im talking about of the walks around the cascata, i took the PR7 walk and where one of the best 8km walked i have ever made....its hard, but the beauty of the Cascata from its bottom is just amazing.
The walks are moderate/hard but its worth all the efort...

When arriving in the city of Arouca, just after the roundabout, you will see on your right the Monastery of Arouca.
Only the church is open to the public, as it was on a Sunday afternoon.
It is a Hugh building with a magnificent church, very spectacular to see, and it also reflects the richness of the religion.
On the back side of the church you have a part with no access and hided after a curtain, but when you move a bit the curtain you can see a wonderful piece of art in form of a sculptures kind of bench on each side of the place, e real ornamental piece, need to see, after taking some pictures, close the curtain.
Short but nice visit of the town, but a very nice area to explore.

Museum of trilobite fossils, beings that lived 460 million years ago in marine environment and whose carapaces were deposited and covered on the Clayey bottoms of the sea; Sediments that later gave origin to the slate, rock in which the fossils of these ancient beings, older than the dinosaurs, are preserved.
The centre is not freely open to the public - you have to telephone ahead, which is sad considering the importance of the trilobites as a universal and scientific treasure. There is an excellent museum, a short film, but not that much else - oh what they could do here.

In summer, this must be very nice as you can bath and swim. However we went in winter. The lanscape is breathtaking anyway and it worth the walk and the visit.
