This is a very good Cafe in Xining, the best that I know -- especially for its Lattes, which surpass many from anywhere in the world! I often go there for coffee, lunch/supper, cinnamon rolls or other Deserts, Italian sodas. It is now like my second office in Xining! Many different drinks available as well as bagels, subs, wraps, hamburgers, etc.
Cafe Java is a cozy cafe with good food and a great vibe. The burgers are great. The pancakes taste just like home. The carrot cake is excellent. They have tea, coffee, mango smoothies, dessert... It's a great place to meet with friends and enjoy a relaxed afternoon. One of their staff members, Claire, is fantastic. Cafe Java is highly recommended!

We went and ordered food for 4, it was all very confusing and not everything we ordered came. The dishes that did come were tasty but they came one a a time with a 10 or 15 minute wait between each dish, we would have ordered more if we had known what was going on but it want clear, and we waited an hour at the end and realized our last dish want coming, so we paid ( we were only charged for what we actually had ) and laft.
What we had was tasty and reasonably priced, but the whole experience was time wasting and a little confusing.

The Amdo café is a delightful place. Good coffee, a welcoming atmosphere, and Amdo crafts for sale all combine to make a visit there very satisfying.

Greenhouse the only third wave specialty coffee shop in western China. We have locations in Xining, Yingchuan and Lhasa. We roast at high altitude which allows us to achieve maximum flavor in our coffee at lower temperatures, saving flavor and energy. We hire deaf staff as a way to give opportunities to the under privileged locals. If you want great coffee, good wifi and the best cheesecake
We heard that Greenhouse was a very popular local chain coffee shop, so we decided to came during our stay.
The ambience was very relaxing. Coffee was good. However, they did not provide any tableware, like forks, knives, for the food we ordered. It could be an inconvenience.
The coffee and food (e.g., Sandwich, chicken row and etc.) generally cost 20 to 50 RMB.

The snack stalls are often very busy, with many local people.
Once inside, go to the cashier with some money, you will be given a card with money loaded on it. Then, proceed to the snack stalls and see what they have. Even without speaking Mandarin, you can point on something and it will be prepared for you. Hold your card to the card reader, the amount will be debited from your card. When leaving, bring your card back to the cashier and you receive the rest of your money back.
Overall, a very local experience with a lot of great food (try the momos and some noodles!). Even though a bit chaotic, an awesome place to eat.

Had the gan ban mian - excellent and a God send after the over cooked and over priced noodles found around Qinghai Lake. The directions on trip advisor are slightly wrong - same road but located just next to the mosque and restaurant name is in Chinese. With your back to the mosque turn right and it's a few shops down on the main road. There's no menu and when you sit you'll be asked if you want dry noodles (gan ban mian) or beef noodles (niu rou mian). And then if you want a big portion (da fen) or small (xiao fen). Had the small dry noodles which come with a small amount of beef and sauce, kind of like a tomato bolognese, without tomato - delicious and enough for lunch.

This is the biggest opened market in the city. unfortunately most of the stores now pushed in the a big building. which is much less interesting than before, but still a great place to get local food.
when you walk to this busy market. take close care of your belongings.

Great traditional Chinese food and a vast menu! Staff spoke no English so get comfortable with pointing to pictures if you don't speak Chinese
