Vila Franca de Xira (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈvilɐ ˈfɾɐ̃kɐ ðɨ ˈʃiɾɐ]) is a municipality in the Lisbon District in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 136,886, in an area of 318.19 km². Situated on the west bank of the Tagus River, 32 km north-east of the Portuguese capital Lisbon, Vila Franca de Xira is said to have been founded by French followers of Portugal's first king, Afonso Henriques, around 1200.

This regional restaurant is located in the old center of Vila Franca de Xira, just near the church.
It has been recommended in Michelin Guide since 2007, and every year til now.
Service is TOP, food is awesome (go for the "Espetada" - portuguese meat kebabs), never tasted something like that in years (14 EUR one kebab-espetada will be enough for two persons).
Worth for a visit if you are passing by (its about 40km north from central Lisbon) and you won't regret.

Open your eyes on arriving...the surroundings are not atractive. Located in an old rice warehouse facing the Tagus river. Nice decoration. Managed by a couple. Staff is friendly but not so professional. Portuguese cuisine could be more genuine. House wine is not a must. After lunch stroll on a river Promenade that will totally justify the trip!

Quite when I arrived and quite when I left.
A delightful local resturant not far from the train station.
I would have liked the lamb but as usual it was off the menue.
The waiter made up for the dissapointment with his constant chatter and willingness to clear away my drinks ect before I finished.
Food was good. And I enjoyed the rest.

This restaurant is a small pearl located on Lisbon outskirts which definitely deserves a trip to. It's serves tradicional dishes from Madeira with excellent quality and presentation. I strongly recommend it!! And excellent value!

Our second time visiting this restaurant for lunch in the lovely little town of Vila Franca de Xira. Both times we got the menu do dia: beautifully grilled fish and pork (the fish served with an escobeche sauce, the pork served with perfect chips). The house wine is excellent, and the menu includes desert and coffee. The total bill came to just over €16 for well cooked food served in pleasant surroundings by friendly staff. The restaurant is deservedly popular with locals

Comemos maminha grelhada.
veio com batata frita, arroz branco e salada mista.
Muito bons o temperos, mas a maminha tinha muito nervo.
Como sobremesa pedi um pudim flan, mas veio com a embalagem.....
café + pão + azeitonas pagámos 7€ por cada um.
Barato, simples e bastante comida.

Nice place to have a quick meal but dont expct too much. Average food and service. Nothing special. You'll have the minimum conditions to eat and leave. Fast and the price is quite fair, not cheap for what you get but you'll foind it fair enough.

The time of fake food has arrived, a risotto made with portuguese carolino rice, hardly no cheese at all and of course lacking that creaminess of a proper risotto was just an example of our lousy meal. Cocky waiter (owner?) and later at home we've realized our check was wrong, not coming back for sure!
