Top 10 restaurants in St. Moritz, Switzerland

April 1, 2018 Christa Meece

Although originally known as a summer destination, when the first snowflakes land in St. Moritz, so do the international scenesters, bundled up in the latest "Must Have" accessories. During winter, catch a ride on the Glacier Express from Zermatt to arrive in style. Cable cars ascend to three nearby mountaintops. Hundreds of miles of ski trails and a frozen lake comprise the area's most popular sports venues. Follow the Romans example and try one of the city's mineral springs, such as St. Moritz Bader.

Cafe Hanselmann

We were a little confused at first as this place has waitress service but you sit yourself when a table becomes available, whilst we stood for a while expecting to be seated.
However, once you have walked through the middle of the sales counter (one side bread and the most delightful cakes) and the other side caters for the sweeter tooth. In the back is a fairly large cafe style room with about 15-20 tables and a wide ranging menu. We both opted for omelettes and they were huge when they arrived. Really if we had known we could have split one but they were very well made and presented. No room afterwards to partake of the cakes (but we opted for takeaway so we did not miss out).
Actually, this place was the best value we found in St Moritz on our three day visit and we were quite surprised as this place is in the center of town and we had expected prices to match places close by but we were pleasantly surprised as on average the dishes were 30-40% lower.
Whether looking for a treat or something more substantial I would highly recommend a visit.

Slap bang in the town centre, we stopped for coffee, hot chocolate and gluhwein (with fries but don’t tell anyone). However we were so taken with the place we stayed a few hours and had an evening meal.
Service unobtrusive, very flexible, the atmosphere is so relaxed with great background music.

The restaurant in Hotel Sonne is a typical pizza restaurant, although they also have a lot of other (traditional) dishes on the menu. Their prices are very reasonable and there is a lot of choice in pizzas. The quality is good, too, and they are so big, they cover your (large) plate. Note they also do their pizzas smaller sized. Service is friendly, observant and quick. Note the restaurant may not be considered extremely elegant, but it certainly is functional. It can host a lot of guests. There is enough (free) parking in front of the restaurant. On Monday, they offer a free glass of prosecco or orange juice.

We were here with a group of 18 for New Year's. We have done so a few times and it has always been a pleasure. The service has always been impeccable and very friendly. The food has always been good, too. This year again, the dining room looked very festively decorated. The owner came to great us all, as is appreciated and customary in this establishment. The specially created New Year's menu looked very appetising so most in our group ordered it. Others ordered the fondue, which is always a hit, too.
Food quality was good again, plates looked nicely made up. Our waiter (who was a new face to us) was friendly but It was unfortunate that he was too busy. The restaurant was very full and I felt could have done with an additional waiter in our section. He would sometimes forget to pour the wine or bring water. We also only got our dessert about 11.40 pm, which was a little too close to midnight. I also think that we did not get the pastry that was on the menu as a final course, due to lack of time. We had a good evening but maybe the service for these large affairs could need a little extra attention.

We were not stopping at the hotel but having arrived at the railway station we were pointed in the direction of this place when asked for something "good food but not too expensive".
Well of course, we are in St Moritz and the term expensive is very subjective, however, after teetering our way across the main road and up the hill in the three feet of snow we were warmly greeted and shown the menu in English. There was something we could choose on there and so decided to stay.
We both decided to go for the Alpine Rosti, thinking it was a little pricy, but when the food arrived the portion was absolutely huge. In fact my wife struggled to finish it all and we did not eat again that day - so in comparison it was absolutely well priced considering it did us for two meals.
The food was well presented and extremely tasty and as stated large portions.
The view from the large windows was stunning even though the low cloud made the scenery disappear for short spells. On a really sunny day then the view across the lake would be absolutely stunning 0 summer or winter.
Service was professional and courteous and I would certainly recommend sticking this place on your where to eat list if you are visiting this haven in the Alps.

We went to Restaurant Uondas for a special occasion meal. The waitress did a great job of explaining the dishes with the local produce on offer including the amazing aged meat. Restaurant-Bar Chesa Veglia

The warm cosiness of old wood, the refined atmosphere that makes St. Moritz the epitome of Alpine charm, and authentic dishes that will dazzle even the most jaded foodie: a meal at Chesa Veglia is a truly unique experience, an absolute must-do while holidaying in Engadin, and a feast for all the senses. Chesa Veglia is Romansh for »old house«, but this time-honoured restaurant is actually much more than that. A historic farmhouse in the pulsing heart of St. Moritz, this beautiful building is as rich in atmosphere as it’s in history. It’s quite impossible to walk through its door without being instantly beguiled by its allure, be it the infectious laughter coming from the bar and the sound of bartenders mixing cocktails, the welcoming Alpine scents of ancient pine and the look and friendly feel of the wooden furnishings and vintage cutlery, or the sense of luxury permeating the air. The ingredients for a perfect night are all there, and all you have to do is sit back and enjoy. In 1936, Chesa Veglia was transformed by Badrutt’s Palace Hotel into an avant-garde meeting place for budding epicureans, the forefathers of today’s foodies. Since then, its irresistible atmosphere has attracted locals as well as tourists, not to mention VIPs such as Elizabeth Taylor and her entourage. To this day, Chesa Veglia is popular with the young, hip jet-set crowd fond of holidaying in St. Moritz, not just because of its unique ambience, but also thanks to its excellent food. When it comes to food, it’s hard, if not impossible, to beat the incredible variety offered at Chesa Veglia. The establishment boasts three different restaurants and two bars, all unique and resplendent in their own way, guaranteeing that everyone’ll find just what they’re looking for. Take the Patrizier Stuben for instance, stunning and elegant with its rustic Engadin decor: prepare to enjoy revisiting regional favourites, concocted by a chef who ensures that the fresh local ingredients used fulfil their potential and more. Traditional dishes with an incredible new spin grace the menu, side by side with other favourites such as caviar, foie gras and vegetarian specialities. The Pizzeria Heuboden, meanwhile, is all about Italian cuisine and, more specifically, pizza plays the starring role, as you might expect, prepared authentically in a wood-fired oven. If the idea of ordering pizza in the heart of the Alps doesn’t appeal to you, think again: here, you’ll bite into a crust that will definitely make a lasting impression. Most decadent of them all is the famous »Dama Bianca«, a white grande dame of a pizza, prepared with tasty taleggio, delicate buffalo mozzarella, pungent Parmesan and topped with generous shavings of truffle. At Grill Chadafo, open only during the winter season, delicious grill specialities await: the roasted Bresse chicken with rosemary is the restaurant’s signature dish and leaves even the most exhausted epicure lost for words. And while Chesa Veglia is famous chiefly for its food, there’s yet one more reason to pay it a visit. Before or after dining, two bars – the Polo Bar all year round and Bar Carigiet in the winter – invite guests to unwind, relax and enjoy an aperitif, a cocktail, a beer or a glass of wine. This is where memories are made, where guests soak up the incredible atmosphere and interior and linger for a little more fun before returning to the peace and quiet of their rooms in Badrutt’s Palace Hotel.

Badrutt's Palace Hotel Restaurant

The Le Restaurant exudes a glamorous and soothing atmosphere at the same time. Made for a candlelight dinner. The service is the way you are barely familiar with anymore. And the kitchen? Is proud that guests can order what they want - no matter whether it is on the menu. In winter a harpist plays for breakfast. Unique.

We ducked inside what we thought was a retail building in a downpour. Well, we knew it wasn't a retail building when we saw the doorman. And the fancy lobby. And it kept getting nicer and nicer--I was waiting for them to throw me out. I actually asked the maitre d' if I violated the dress code since I was wearing shorts. He said "not until 6pm sir". He was very nice and so was all of the staff. It was time for high tea and they were serving it, quite a few people in the lobby bar/restaurant. The menu is astonishing. 42 CHF for oxtail soup, etc. I ended up getting coffee and some chocolates. About 36 CHF for my wife and I and a gratuity. We walked around some, the place is amazing. The actual restaurant with white tablecloths is jawdropping from the looks of it. The menu is fantastic and completely out of my league.
