St. Mary’s is a postcard-perfect jumble of castles and coves. It’s the largest island of the United Kingdom’s Isles of Scilly, an archipelago that’s been inhabited for thousands of years. Ancient stone structures, Spanish windmills, lush gardens and breathtaking wetlands all draw visitors longing for a quaint Cornish holiday that’s steeped in history and modern charm.

The restaurant is very quirky. The waiting staff highly trained and efficient. Food excellent, though very expensive. We thought the middle course of sorbet or velout was complimentary , it usually is. However this is charged as an extra course, which we wouldn't have had if we had realised. We both felt this wasn't very clear.
On arrival at the Star Castle we were told to go down to the bar and we both thought that we were to be called when our table was ready, so we waited and waited......
The receptionist when I asked if we had been forgotten said that she had said for us to go to the restaurant when we were ready and that we both must have not heard her. I did think this was a bit unusual and unprofessional on her part.
In the bar we were ignored while the barman joked with others , obviously guests . It certainly felt
that because we were not staying at the hotel that we were not part of the in crowd.
It is such a shame as the restaurant is great , but the reception and bar let it down as we felt that diners from the outside were unwelcome.

A well-loved family run restaurant overlooking the beautiful harbour on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly. Open daily from late March through to the end of October. We open at 10am and serve evening meals from 6pm, except on Tuesday nights.
I had perhaps the best seafood platter I have ever tasted today. A truly wonderful location looking over the bay to Hugh Town with the low cloud giving a different ambience every ten minutes, sitting out on the Terrace with the sparrows and finches eating out of your hand was an unforgettable experience. Don’t miss this place.

Serving freshly prepared home cooked Breakfast, Lunch and Bistro style dining. Also offering take away hot and cold snacks, a variety of teas, speciality coffees and home made cakes.Enjoy great food, casual dining and a friendly atmosphere where families are always welcome. We also cater for large groups.'Simple food by Scilly people'
Family and I ate here on out last day on the Islands. Full breakfasts all round with tea, coffee, toast and Juice. All cooked fresh to order using simple local ingredients what's not to like. The café itself is much larger than it appears from the outside and there is plenty of space. Service was good and prices reasonable. There were quite a few local workmen and contractors in the café when we visited so they cannot be wrong can they!

Dibble & Grub has a fantastic location on Porthcressa beachfront with beautiful views over the bay. Serving brunch, lunch, tapas & evening meals, all food is freshly prepared on the premises. Special dietary requirements are happily catered for with a wide choice for vegetarians and ceoliacs. Baristas prepare your coffee from seasonal espresso roasted in Cornwall. The fully licensed bar offers excellent cocktails, Mediterranean lagers, Cornish ciders and a carefully chosen Wine List.
And what a jolly good cuppa it was! I had a flat white, my wife a cappuccino. Best cup of coffee I’ve had on the Islands. Nice place to sit outside in the sun.

There are few more pleasurable things in life than eating good food in a stunning location. Our menu is designed to complement the setting by providing tastes of the land and the sea as well as meeting the expectations of beach goers who want something simple or light. Our range of dishes is based on sustainability and where we source our produce is also of great importance. Of equal importance is the vibe - Scilly is primarily a holiday resort where people come to relax, so by day and night Speros maintains a relaxed and informal atmosphere where people of all ages feel at ease. There is also plenty of room to sit outside and enjoy the fantastic view. When the tide comes in it is almost like sitting on the end of a pier, and words cannot adequately describe the experience when the sun goes down between the hills of Samson. In short, Spero's is all about sustainable food done well in a stunning setting with a pleasant atmosphere. We hope to welcome you soon.
We started we delicious cocktails on the decking overlooking the beach. Then moved inside for a great meal once it got cool. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and efficient. All the ingredients seemed fresh and well prepared. We would definitely recommend Speros.

We stopped in here on a rainy day in need of a pick me up and some drying off. We didn't have high expectations. Well the place looked full, but a member of staff asked if we were eating and in 2 minutes we were...MoreMany thanks for your review - we really appreciate the time you've taken to share your experiences. We do hope to see you back here very soon!

Restaurant on first floor.
4 of us chose the mermaid for a chilled out evening with a decent meal. Atmosphere was great - the Mermaid is a proper pub, plenty of locals drinking when we arrived and friendly bar staff. We ate steak, ham egg and chips and BBQ ribs. All pretty good and reasonably priced. Then had a few games of pool. What more can you ask for?!

Traditional village pub, providing quality food using local produce at reasonable prices. Specialising in a wide range of ciders, and great quality ales and a very warm welcome Open twelve- three daily Evening opening hours: Mon, Tues, Weds five thirty - eleven twenty Thurs, Fri, Sat five thirty - midnight Sunday five thirty - eleven Food served: twelve- two and six - eight everyday.
The décor here is fine but perhaps lacks a little atmosphere. Having said that it get remarkably busy for a pub/restaurant that is out of the main town and that in itself does create a very welcoming ambiance.. The walk from Hugh Town is doable - just 20 minutes along the road brings you to the Old Town Inn and it's well worth it. We enjoyed several meals here including one at night and each time the food was very good indeed. Not only that but the beers are well-kept and the landlord is to be commended for his skills at being able to serve a perfect pint. Not all beers are as well presented on the Islands but here you should be guaranteed a really excellent brew. O.T.I. is excellent!
A word about the staff too... they're great. Lovely, smiling team who do you proud.

You come here for the beach and island, and the cafe is hidden away up a little track, so I was rather surprised to find that we ended up having a quite superb ploughman's lunch, great big slabs of chesse, stunning well presnted, decent, brown bread, and all at very good prices. The garden is great, although the site is a little exposed when its blowing a Scilly gale.

The restaurant is light - as you would expect from a conservatory - and spacious. The team worked very well together and we felt well looked-after throughout. The food was to a very good standard: we ate there three times in less than a week and, as seafood lovers, we were delighted to find both Turbot and John Dory featuring on the menu. More importantly, the food was cooked very well and was complemented by a very good wine list.
I am not generally a fan of dining in hotel restaurants: for this one, I shall make an exception.
