This is a great restaurant which serves a good selection of traditional Swiss dishes.
I really enjoyed the bacon salad starter followed by steak escalopes which arrived with an excellent selection of vegetables and a tasty risotto.
If you have room I would highly recommend the range of home made ice creams and the chocolate cake.
The service was excellent and there was a great atmosphere in the restaurant.

If you want to see where locals go, visit this place! Drinks and food (small meals / antipasti) are very good but at a higher price. The location is awesome both on the inside and outside right next to the river! On weekends there might be parties inside and the place is sometimes closed for "regular" visitors! All in all a must see for visitors of the city!!!

Great appetizers, great variety. Just go easy or there is no space for the main course! Great grilled fish and Italian style roast beef were the main course choices. The variety of desserts was extensive and very good. Wine and Espressi were excellent too! If only the Swiss food prices would not be so elevated!!

We stopped by recently, a larger group of friends for a relaxing lunch.
The atmosphere is relaxed, menu interesting and service fast and friendly.
The goat cheese in filopastry was a hit but other items on the menu are just as nice.
Located in city centre, it's a great experience.

This is certainly the most stylish and trendiest place of Solothurn’s fine dining scene. The restaurant is – as its name suggests – an ancient salt house and is situated directly on the river (Aare) in Solothurn’s old town worth seeing. The cuisine is modern, the chef cooks in an European-Asian fusion style. I have been there a few times, but only for lunch. I cannot give an assessment for the dinner experience, which may be different because there is another food concept.
The Salzhaus has a two-course lunch box on offer for lunch from Mondays to Saturdays. This costs SFR 25, be it for starter and main or for main and dessert. If you want all three courses, you have to spend SFR 30. Mineral water in included in this rate. There is either a soup or a salad as starter. For main, you can choose between a meat, fish, vegetarian and pasta dish. As to dessert, the server brings a tablet with small glasses containing about 3 different sweets. While in earlier times I had the impression that the portions are too small, I cannot say so regarding my past two visits. Both times, I had enough although the portions are not large.
When I had lunch at the Salzhaus the last time, our group had all the mains except the meat one. All the dishes – a salmon trout with sushi rice and wakame, asparagus with sauce hollandaise and new potatoes as well as Asian noodles with Singapore marinade and shrimps – were light and tasty. As dessert, I picked out custard with rhubarb compote. It was okay, although the compote was a bit overpowering.
In my view, the restaurant is a jewel if you look at it from an architectural point of view. The historic building was renovated in a stylish, contemporary way without neglecting its original character. Staff is friendly and attentive. The price for the two-course lunch box is not exactly inexpensive, but I find it adequate, especially when considering that mineral water is included.
All in all, if you are looking for a contemporary lunch spot with a modern cuisine serving serious good food in Solothurn’s old town, then go there, you will not be disappointed.

This nice restaurant is one of my favorites so far in Switzerland: Service is good, the price / quality of the food is great. The pizzas are very big but the dough is very thin, like cracker, and good ingredients and offer. The best is at the end: you will gladly pay the bill :)

We chose this place for a party of four and enjoyed a perfect night out! The waiter and waitresses were very friendly and professional! The food was excellent, beginning with the amuse-bouche from the kitchen (cold, refreshing soup) to the main courses of four flambéed skewers! We also had dessert and coffee, both very nice and at a fair price! The place is not cheap but you definitely get a lot for the money you pay! Go there and enjoy!

After three years of living in Solothurn, we finally decided to try this place. We visited early on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was fully booked. We highly recommend that you reserve a table to ensure you get a place as they had to turn away people (both via phone who tried to reserve for later that evening and people who stopped by). The restaurant is quaint, with Seating for about 35-40ish, so I presume that the Seating problem occurs more often than not.
The food was of good quality, pretty authentic (and we've been to Thailand twice), and prices were very reasonable by Swiss standards. Depending on the meat you select (chicken, shrimp, duck, etc.), curries range from CHF 22-27 and the noodle dishes were max CHF 23.
We enjoyed the appetizer mix for 2, the red curry with duck, and the pad si ew (spelling???) noodles with shrimp. The food was lovely (both in taste and presentation), served in large portions, and they were not stingy at all with the duck and shrimp. We would order everything again. They also ask how spicy you want the curry and definitely cater to those more sensitive to spiciness.
Good service, good ambiance, good prices, and good food...we will definitely be back.

We visited the Stalden whilst on an overnight trip to Solothurn. It was a very warm and pleasant evening and they had space in the Gardens of the restaurant on a nice table for two.
We had a mixed dish of starters which included meat, fish and cheese which was very enjoyable.
Staff were pleasant and friendly and the location was excellent. The restaurant was fully booked and we were lucky that the table we got had been vacated just before we arrived. Around 70 chf for a meal for two.
A very nice evening out.
