La Pommeraie

Reviewed By Calpurnia33 - Brussels, Belgium

This is a great restaurant in the grand French tradition, but with a slight Italian twist thanks to the owner's nationality, which also gives the restaurant a warmer feel and friendly service - unlike that of some similar establishments where you can feel that they are doing you a favour by serving you anything at all. The dishes are exquisite, displaying classical haute cuisine techniques but with innovative flavours. My husband declared his salmon tartare the best he had ever tasted. The portions are a perfect size, giving you enough to really analyse the different subtle flavours, but leaving you wanting just a little more. Which means that by the end of the meal you still have room for some cheese and dessert - and trust me, you definitely want to try those desserts! And then you get up from the table feeling like you've had a wonderful, memorable meal, but not like you're going to have to spend the next 10 days eating a lettuce leaf per day to expiate your sins. Really worth going to.

This restaurant has a nice ambiance and was filled with people, most of them germans and other tourists. The food was nothing special, expensive and without finesse, more the german way of cooking. The wines totally overpriced. The foie gras was good. The service was unpersonal and too quick. We payed (2 persons) 120 including a bottle of wine, but without dessert. I felt sick the day after. Reading now another review, I suppose they don't work clean in the kitchen! Be aware!

There are better restaurants in the area. This one was disappointing. Service busy - restaurant full but only two people serving. Food for 4 was mixed - OK foie gras escallop but only; potato galletes with munster was poor; duck burger - nice idea but didn't work well... Need to BOOK.

Passing through and sleeping here, i had dinner in the very cosy and nice, traditionally decorated restaurant, a bit separated from the hotel. High quality local specialities, very good, maybe somewhat traditional wine list with lots of local toppers, very friendly, very welcoming. Ate a wonderful terrine here and some tradtional tripes d'alsace. Very high quality, nice place.

Despite arriving without a reservation on a weekend evening, we were given a great welcome. The restaurant team are all clearly well-trained, good- humoured professionals who understand and love good cuisine. Their attention to detail in every aspect of customer service makes us want to return as soon as we can. Excellent food and wine served in an airconditioned restaurant where both French and German are spoken.
An unexpected thunderstorm involved a willing team of helpers from the kitchen to assist in the outside dining area clean up operation. No guest was neglected during the process.

We had such a lovely experience here. Came for lunch and the food was delicious! Very generous servings so don't get too greedy and order too much- you will be very full! Our waiter- most probably the boss/manager- was also hilarious and liked to play a few tricks and harmless pranks on us. All in all, a great restaurant to try something new and different :)

Au Pied De Boeuf

Totally recommended!
Me and my husband ended up at the Au pied de boeuf by recommendation from our hotel (which kitchen is closed on Mondays) and we couldn't be happier with the choice. The place is very informal, nothing fancy and crowded with locals (good sign). We both ordered the same dish "L'araignee". A lovely juicy, tender and tasteful beef served with mushrooms and fries (I think you could choose between fries and choucroute, but I'm not so sure). Pricing was quite fair and I even dare to say low (if compared to Holland, where we live) considering the size and wonderful quality of the beef. We're looking forward to have our last meal there again, before departure later on today.

Crep'oz

Reviewed By AspenWicki - Aspen

This little creperie looks inaspicious from the outside, and is tucked away near the edge of the pedestrianized part of Selestat, serves some of the best, most imaginative crepes we have ever tasted! The crepe with pork kidneys (yes, pork kidneys!) and porcini, which we approached with some hesitation (!) was superb! Totally unique recipes, that the owner claims he learned from his grandmother. For desert, we enjoyed a buckwheat crepe with a home made butter and caramel sauce. The variety of crepes on the menu is breathtaking. Very untouristy. Cider is a specialty. We loved it.
