Been back to Campbell's again this week. Food is still good & it's still the best place, without a doubt, to eat in Portpatrick and surrounding areas. (Have tried Henry's Bay House in Stranraer and the Mount Stuart Hotel & Colfin Creamery, both in Portpatrick, since last review, and Campbell's still comes out on top).
I still have the same criticisms as before - don't serve both chips & potatoes as routine accompaniments to every meal - either/or is fine. Also, lack of variety in the vegetable department is still a problem. And a salad side dish option included in the meal price, instead of potatoes, chips and veg would greatly enhance the menu.
Portion sizes have reduced considerably. This is not a bad thing in itself, as prices have not risen either - so it leaves scope to have a starter or pudding, whereas before the amount of food served on the main course precluded either. And it's good to see a chef working to the market by not just increasing prices year-on-year.
Just a by-word, though - don't have anything to do with any chicken dishes served here, as they are always overcooked and dry as dust. Anything else on the menu is good.

Called in with extended family, nine of us in total, children and adults. Had a cross section of meals, from bacon and egg rolls, soup, to toasted. All very good and tasty. Served by friendly attentive staff in clean warm surroundings. Moderate prices,

Stopped in Portpatrick on way to see family in Stranraer, was intending to just get a coffee but ended up having lunch. We had baguettes, lovely fresh bread, packed full of filling, delicious and excellent value for money. Very attentive gentleman, suspect he was the owner, nothing too much trouble and we had nice chat with him, lovely man!
Sadly we didnt get to return but when up in the area again, it will be on the agenda.
Sat in a window seat, fab view of harbour

The restaurant is easy to find, just off the main road to Drummore. Very pleasant atmosphere with a nice country pub feel. They have a good selection of beers available. There is a great selection on the menu. I had the Haggis burger which I can definitely recommend, the rest of the family all enjoyed their meals too

I have visited Fig and Olive on several occasions and know that their food and coffee are excellent. Today’s lunch was just superb. Great service, music playing quietly and lovely display of books and other goodies added to a perfect experience. Our lunch today was one of the specials, quinoa crusted sweet potato and courgette burger served on a brioche bun with eggplant and capsicum relish, onions and side salad. Absolutely delicious. We will certainly be back, yet again.

Nestled in the West Coast town of Stranraer overlooking the picturesque Loch Ryan where you can watch the Ferries going to and from Northern Ireland and Cairnryan Port. Henrys Bay House Restaurant boasts the finest sun Terrace for alfresco dining and views to be inspired by. The menu features locally sourced fish and meat prepared and cooked freshly to order by local chef/restauranteur John Henry. The comfortable and stylish restaurant and bar are managed by his wife Jane and her team of attentive, welcoming staff.
I ate here with my partner early evening when staying nearby to catch an early morning Ferry.
Both The restaurant and bar area were clean with a nice ambience, lovely decor and the place feels welcoming as soon as you enter.
We both took advantage of the early bird special and had 2 excellent courses.
I opted for garlic mushroom starter and my partner chose the goats cheese, both were very tasty and well presented.
We both followed with slow cooked sirloin which was tender and succulent and served with a good array of new potatoes, hand cut chips and a good selection of fresh veg.
Service was excellent and waiting staff were lovely.
Thank you for a very enjoyable dining experience.
If I find myself in the area again I will not hesitate to return.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights and ate in the restaurant both nights, because the food was so good on the first night and there was a good selection on the menu to have something different on the second night.
Friendly staff good service, you can either eat in the conservatory, dining area, bar or on the patio. As it was blowing a gale, we ate in the conservatory both nights and enjoyed the views while dining.
It was busy both nights, so best to book, both locals, passersby and hotel guests use the hotel.
As guests we also ate breakfast, excellent standard - cooked to order
