We drove through to Picton with my parents for lunch on Monday and chose to eat at The Barn. What a mistake! Firstly, the surcharge was ridiculous. The price of the blue cod meal was already off the charts at $39 and the Whitebait the same! When the blue cod came out, it looked exactly the same as the orange roughy meal at $18.50( + the 15% surcharge) having only 1 small piece of fish with the shoestring chips tasting unpleasant, very oily! I had ordered the calamari salad after asking if it was crumbed and being assured it was. No such luck! It was the boxed Pacific West battered calamari bites that you get from the supermarket- not nice and at $23(+ the 15%) ludicrous! We had opted to select from the specials board, that didn't have any pricing on it and it honestly felt like the waitress was plucking prices from the air! The decor is dark and uninviting and the service less than adequate. The price for 2 mains and 2 drinks was $96! I expect fine dining for those prices, and I couldn't drink the house Sauvignon either, everyone at the table agreed it tasted like diesel fuel! I wouldn't recommend dining here as neither the staff or the establishment are efficient or worth the costly prices. We won't be back. Think we'll stick to Cortardo's in future!

This place is really great value for money for high end meals. Very attentive wait staff but subtle and friendly with it. Highly recommended. Food is amazing! You need to book but make sure you do - you won't be disappointed.

Ate here for brunch after Reading the TA reviews. Found the service when ordering to be efficient but not friendly - however the staff delivering the meals were lovely. We enjoyed our food and the coffee was great and the atmosphere is relaxed and rustic and they have a window seat you can sit at and enjoy the passing parade.

Local NZ seafood, wines and beers. A nautical theme and piano bar with view across the waterfront and Queen Charlotte Sound
Good fast and friendly service and really good food been there for lunch but could imagine having a few drinks and dinner in the evening.

This was the only restaurant we saw open in Picton on Christmas Day so we willingly called in for a meal towards the end of the day.
Welcome was warm and genuine, despite it clearly being a frantic day for the owners.
As for the food, "stunning" seems the best word to sum it up. Perfect in all ways, as well as being plentiful.
Will certainly consider on our way through the town next time.

Not the flashiest looking place to dine, but the food was great and so tasty. The best Pad Thai we have had for a long time. Lovely friendly staff

Cafe Cortado is located on the Picton waterfront with beautiful views over Queen Charlotte Sound and Picton marina. We have spacious outdoor and indoor dining areas. Our a-la-carte menus include fresh nz seafood including our delicious creamy seafood chowder and our very popular seafood platter. We use free range chicken and eggs in our menus and everything is cooked from scratch. We are the restaurant of choice for our local community for breakfast, lunch, dinner, pizzas, tapas as well as our wine and beer selection.
Great location, best of servers ever! Delish blue cheese, pear salad and the prawn avocado salad. Huge and perfect. The Coronado pizza was wonderful. Reasonably priced, and one of the best places to eat in Picton! We are a bit spoilt for location, glad you enjoyed your pizza and salad. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review.

Fresh baking made on site daily, fresh bread, sourdough, hot pies, sandwiches, cakes, slices, coffee & cold drinkd
The Bakery has set itself up for the quick turn round of people wanting a quick stop and grab something to take on the ferry. There are a few on road parking spots and also a car park on the other corner. We were in and out with our breakfast in hand inside 2 minutes. Tasty buns and scones.

We stopped in here to pick up some takeaways to eat down at the Memorial Park by the water, literally only two minutes walk away. It was dinner time and unfortunately the queue was out the door. We decided to wait, and saw as we neared the front of the queue that it was a one-woman-band here, taking orders, cooking, and dishing everything up herself! She seemed very frazzled and we did feel a bit bad piling more work onto her plate. Nonetheless she got through everything and with a little more waiting we received our food. It was good, decent serving sizes and everything was well cooked and not overdone, although I must say we ordered and paid for 6 corn nuggets but only received 4 with our order - this kind of thing happens when you're under the pump I guess! If we're in Picton in future and feel like fish & chips again we would visit again, although we'd probably aim for off-peak hours if possible.
