Louise at Amberley B and B recommended,....what a lovely building and pretty village. We drove from Bucks and back for Sunday lunch to meet up with family for a day!Worth the drive ....my veggie food was very good and the other s thoroughly enjoyed their meals.
Husband had the mussels and battered prawns...declared to be wonderful.
Son and his girlfriend are probably still drooling over the excellent Brie starter followed by roast beef. They loved all of it and declared the gravy brilliant.did manage to have sticky toffee puds....brilliant and the ice cream was fab.Service was very good without being overbearing. All round delight after some quite bad experiences in the area previously.....
Looking forward to a spring visit. Its a pleasure to give suc a review, well worth it,lovely place.

The website completely undersells this restaurant ( not just a pub). Maybe the problem is that most people come here for a pizza which I am sure is lovely. But the rest of the menu is absolutely first class. I have just had one of the best meals this year. The strips of tender beef brisket were outstanding served on a bed of leaves soaked in mild chilli and pomegranate seeds. Superb. Then the Dartmoor lamb in a mild yoghurt spiced sauce on peppers and other tasty vegetables. This was two dishes which I have never had before anywhere and both were outstanding. Finished with with a mixed offereing of peach Melba and Eton mess. Lovely. Nice bottle of Valpollicella and hot espresso to finish off. First class service. Pulled pork in brioche bun, like a small burger was excellent and lovely Moules frites all first class. Chips were huge and divine.
Chef Nigel deserves the highest acclaim for this. If you are staying at Bovey Castle go here one night. Book as it is a limited table restaurant by phoning. Do not email. £85 before tip. Rounded up to £100 for sheer excellence. Be sure to go here.

Last century we went here fairly regularly and but now of course, like the majority of "pubs ", food takes preference. Consequently there are pre laid tables everywhere. That detracts from the oold pub ambiance.
However the staff are friendly and the food was plentiful . Standard pub restaurant food.

My partner treated me to dinner out after months of working hard. Our treat was at The Thatched cottage in kingsteighton Newton Abbot. Once we had arrived and shown to our table another couple were shown to theirs, to be greeted to homemade bread rolls. We saw this and waited, after 6 minutes we asked the waitress if we could have rolls too please, she happily gave us one each. We watched the couple order their meals and shortly after our order was taken. My partner had ordered fillet steak ( the same as the female on the other table ) . I had pork loin. We saw the other couples meal come out and were eagerly awaiting ours. Eventually our meals were placed in front of us, my partner shocked at the small medium steaks size as it was tiny compared to the females dish ( surely steaks should be weighed per portion ) this was clearly not the case. My meal tasted lovely and I tucked in. I had nearly finished my meal when I noticed the pork was raw in the middle ( that put me off completely ) the waitress came to take our plates and asked if all was ok. I told her the pork was raw and she apologised. A lady came over to my table shortly after and also apologised. She said the chef had said it does not matter if pork is pink, it will not hurt me! !! Well I was astonished by this remark and quickly pointed out the pork was raw, not pink! She then offered me a free desert or coffee which I declined. My partner had a desert of banoffee cumble. This was puff pastry was a thin layer of toffee sauce and thin slices of banana topped off by Mountains of crumble. It made no sense together and was dry and hard puff pastry. I had a coffee. I asked for the bill and once arrived I was told the desert and coffee were taken from the bill ( I did not ask for this ) . As the fillet steak dinner was £25 and our bill totalled £55 This was not a cheap night out. We certainly did not get value for money or a decent meal out. .. we will not be returning and will advise all family and friends to do the same

The Linny has a lovely atmosphere. A truly quintessential olde worlde, chocolate box, thatched pub a in picturesque village between Torquay & Newton Abbot. The food is delicious we had garlic mushrooms followed by roast lamb, so tender & juicy. Well done Mr.Chef. We were too full to continue through the menu to desserts but they looked amazing. Thank you to everyone.

This wonderful 13th century pub, in the heart of Stokeinteignhead, provides excellent food, fine ales and great service to locals and visitors alike.
Want to the open mike night here and it was brilliant. It was our first time here and you would have thought we had been going for several years. A really friendly place with a great set up.
The staff are very friendly as well with a very warm welcome upon entering the pub.
A great night out and one not to be missed.

I would like to thank mike, Emma and team for a wonderful family meal today for my sisters birthday, the staff are helpful, friendly and professional, the carvery was absolutely delicious 3 delicious meats to choose from and a wonderful choice of vegetables, the desserts were yummy and the portions were just right, I can’t thank you all enough for making our family meal run so smoothly, also would like to add that what a wonderful job they all did in opening the restaurant and making sure there was a full carvery and staff considering that the weather conditions at this time meant that deliveries to businesses were minimal or non existent, so well done and thankyou to you all for everything you had to do to achieve such high standards today. Can highly recommend visiting the Hare and Hounds .

Menu is the usual pub fare. Considering that this is a dining pub, rather than a drinkers pub, it’s disappointing that the menu doesn’t seem to have changed in the last two years.
However, the portions are generous, with a good selection of side vegetables and food is normally cooked well.
Although this is a village pub, there is very little indoor space for people to just socialise with a drink.
It would be an improvement if they labelled reserved tables with the time the diners are expected. We’ve been in there to eat at 6pm, without a reservation and all the nicer tables were already reserved. As the expected diners may not have booked until, say, 8pm, we could have eaten there. Sadly, we were unable to speak to a member of staff to ask the question, so we left and went elsewhere.
