One of the most famous food lover's point in Darjeeling is the glenary's. The ground floor of this restaurant is for the bakery items and the restaurant for the diners are on the top floor. Both have it's separate entrance and also accessible from inside....MoreDear ASRoy1, Thank for taking the time to review us. We are happy you had a wonderful experience with us. I have visited this small joint on the way to the Zoo umpteen times , reviewed earlier also , now reviewing again as the joint has come up with a new look with an open balcony and an open kitchen.. I believe this joint may provide an alternative to Keventers / Glenaries in the coming days..
1) Now you can enjoy the view better from the balcony with your food.
2) The main restaurant also bears more contemporary look , although some may miss the old Bob Dilan kinda look..
3) As I mentioned earlier also, this joint is not for foodies , so don't expect a lot of choices n highest quality in food... What makes the difference is the ambiance...

This is a fairly small, informal type restaurant that was extremely busy every time we walked past (which was numerous) and when it was full they just put the 'Closed' sign on the door
The occasion we ate there we were lucky enough that someone was just leaving.
We had pork momo's, vegetable momo's and their noodle soup. Good tasty food, and very filling.
Pity TA overall rating doesn't have a 'good', as our experience although not very good was certainly not average.
Give this place a go (if you can get in!!)

Pan cakes, Coffee, butter toast and scrambled eggs and books! What a combination. Sharing tables and thoughts with people around the world. Awesome experience. I'd definitely visit again.

We bought Darjeeling tea from Nathmull's. The gentleman at the counter told us that they also have a place at Chowrasta where they serve tea and muffins. We shared a pot of excellent tea. The gentleman also brought the used tea leaves for us to savour the flavour.

They serve up excellent local food and sandwiches, homemade pastas, ravioli and lasagna. You can hang out on the low couches with your cup of Lavazza and some sandwiches, browsing through books, playing Scrabble, using the free wi-fi, or chatting with hip locals.

Kafal Restaurant is a cosy little place tucked in amidst the hills of Purano Namchi, South Sikkim. Our menu has been designed with utmost care to bring the world on your plate, quite literally. From traditional Himalayan fare like Thakali Thali and T-Momo to American favourite Fried Chicken and Italian Pizza, we at Kafal believe in taking your taste buds for a spin around the world. Our offering of global cuisine is what sets us apart from other restaurants in Namchi and we continue to endeavour to bring the best of world food to our valued patrons. While we're thinking global when it comes to our food, our décor is all about being local. The traditional setting has employed a lot of native bamboos and recycled wood. We've worked with our own hands to install the various settings and therefore the décor holds an extra special corner in our hearts and we hope it does the same for you.
We visited this restaurant a couple of times while staying at the nearby Summit Sobralia Hotel. Located on the Chardham/Helipad Road. About 10 mins comfortable walk from the hotel towards Chardham. The building would be on your right with a prominent sign board. The restaurant is 12 steps down from the street level entrance.
Ambience & Service:
Located in a residential area with lovely open vistas behind the buildings fronting the road. Nobody would mistake this for a fancy Star Rated establishment. Rather, it's a cosy comfortable home-stay sort of place. A few tables and a lounge area. You can see into the kitchen and the aromas drift in as you wait to be served. Attentive service and long opening hours. Infact the residences around the restaurant go to sleep by say 9 pm but the resto stays open till 11 pm.
Food and Beverages:
Usual north-Indian fare with a few Bhutanese and Tibetan items. Competently cooked in a robust home-style. The bar menu offers limited choice but prices are very reasonable. See the menus I have uploaded. Since food is cooked after you place your order, the food takes time to arrive. The good thing about that is food is always fresh. Infact, we made our wait pleasant by ordering a drink or two.
