The last of the five villages along the Cinque Terre strip, Monterosso al Mare is the most visited, largely because it has the only sizable sand beach and the biggest hotels. Though it can get very crowded with tourists during the peak summer months, Monterosso is still delightful. The old town area, separated from the more modern resort area by the Aurora tower, is home to the ruins of a medieval castle and San Francesco church, which houses an important Van Dyck painting of the crucifixion.

Yet another excellent recommendation from our tour guide.
Tucked away towards the back of the town and on a little side street, this place may be hard to find, but definitely worth the effort. Ask for a freshly baked cheeseball and you will know what we mean. Simply amazing and just so yummy. Unfortunately for us, we only bought one to share between my wife & I when we had to run back to the port to catch our boat. Wished we had bought a dozen of them to enjoy, as both of us wanted more as did others in our tour group who tried it.

Ewe loved this restaurant. Walk up from the seaside by the old fortress and gaze at the sea. Enter into a cozy restaurant. The waiter was superbly personable. Appetizers were octopus and olives and capers, and we split a pasta that was delicious. Fish was split- a roasted whole Bronzino with olives and capers . Fabulous sauce! Chocolate cake dessert also great.

Miky will be open on Tuesday April 25
We were excited to try this highly recommended restaurant, but when we sat down to peruse the menu, we noticed that there was not a single dish served without fish or seafood, which my husband despises. It took forever for someone to come back to us once we were seated, so we finally informed the hostess walking by that we would like to speak with someone about an issue we had. Finally, someone came and we explained the situation, asking if they could prepare anything for my husband with meat rather than seafood. She said they could offer only spaghetti with a marinara sauce. When I explained that wouldn't work well because the night before in Riomaggiore, we had eaten at another Michelin restaurant where the same thing had happened. I explained that I couldn't subject my husband to such a drab dinner two nights in a row, and she instantly began chiding us for making a reservation with them, never offering to prepare something a little more interesting/tasty for him. With the poor service and crummy attitude of this member of the staff, we did not feel at all badly about walking out.

Spent our last night in Cinque Terre here enjoying some local wine and nibbles. The capers were delicious! Lovely bar and great setting - highly recommend. We then crossed over the square to Da Eraldo for dinner which was excellent (but worth booking ahead!).

Ristorante Via Venti is located on one of the most ancient alleyways in the town-characteristic to the historic center of Monterosso al mare. Here you can eat and relax, while enjoying ancient atmosphere of the village.
We ate at this restaurant last night. We had a reservation for four at 7:00, outside. We arrived at 6:55 and there were not any tables available outside. We should have left. Instead the server moved a family of 4, that had already been served inside and gave us their table. We were told that they were sold out of 3 of our choices for dinner. No crab, no oysters, they were out of a simple grilled steak with arugula, but could offer one with mushrooms for € 10 more.
Service was slow and unfriendly. The steamed mussels were okay but nothing that I would order again.
The prawns we very fishy and over cooked. The seafood ravioli was inedible. It smelled bad and we promptly told the server to take it away. He laughed. We said no really we can't eat it. It sat there. We have been in Monterosso for a week. This was by far the worst dining experience and the most expensive that we had. I felt compelled to warn others. There are so many wonder places to eat, don't waste your time or money here.

We went to this restaurant on recommendation from the hotel we stayed in.
Great outdoor dining with friendly and polite staff who were prompt with all our requests.
We had salad starters that were tasty followed by fish of the day (Sea Bass) and Almond encrusted Salmon. Both were mouthwatering.
A great find that we highly recommend.

AC was working in the back and badly needed with a massive heat wave. Decor is "rustic" Italian, and food is likewise, but reasonably good and reasonably priced. Seating inside and outside. Food and souvenirs to purchase and take away as well. Good service.

La Cantina Di Miky (from the same family of Ristorante Miky) specializes in innovative and fresh Ligurian food of the region, served either on our seafront Terrace, in our garden, or downstairs inside our ancient wine cantina. We are proud to have the largest selection of Italian craft beers in the area, and we also offer an extensive list of Italian wines with an emphasis on local wines from the area, as well as a large list of cocktails and spirits.
We arrived in Monterosso tired and hungry. La Cantina is conveniently located on the Promenade by the train station. As we were looking at the menu posted outside, we were greeted by a personable young man who answered a few questions for us. We decided to give it a try and he showed us to a table inside. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. We ordered wine by the glass. It was very good, but a very light poor. My husband ordered a line-caught local fish that was very good (20 euro), and I had a pasta dish (12 euro)that had good flavor and the noodles cooked to perfection. It was an enjoyable evening and a good introduction to the region.

This location is at the train station, just under the main terminal area, at the entrance. They've got quiche-like focaccia, sandwiches, focaccia pizzas, and desserts. It's really just a "to-go" stand, but there are benches in front. Very affordable, on the go food. Best focaccia in Monterosso.
Located opposite the beach just down from the train station this place had very reasonably priced Focaccia's, snacks and the cheapest Birra in Town which I frequented on several occasions ! Always busy , but made fresh in front of you , a real good find !!
