Mae Sot (Thai: แม่สอด, pronounced [mɛ̂ː sɔ̀ːt]; Burmese: မဲဆောက်, [mɛ́ sʰaʊʔ]; Shan: ႄႈသၢႆ, [ɛ sʰaaj]) is a city in western Thailand that shares a border with Burma to the west. It is notable as a trade hub and for its substantial population of Burmese migrants and refugees. The city is part of Tak Province, 87 km from the city of Tak and 509 km from Bangkok. It is home to the district headquarters of Mae Sot District, and is the main gateway between Thailand and Burma. As a result, it has gained notoriety for its trade in gems and teak, as well as black market services such as people trafficking and drugs.

I have had a beef filet and a coffee at this place today. In the coffee, there were at least ten ants. The filet was very chewy, not tender at all. I doubt that it was actually a fillet. Also it was not evenly cooked, as if it had been frozen... The french fries were ok but with a very floury taste. The vegetables were good.
I don't know what they did with the beef but I ended up with stomach ache and diarrhea, so I cannot recommend this place at all.
If you want a decent meal and good coffee, there is a nice little internet coffee about 50 meters down the road (towards the friendship bridge). There you get a nice steak for only 70 Bath.

The best coffee I have had anywhere in Thailand! Located on Mae Sot's main street, they sell excellent handmade magnets and cards and also offer free wifi, cakes, breakfast and smoothies.
Good food, and good (but expensive) coffee. Rude service but the food and drinks are worth putting up with the unfriendly staff and its in a nice central location

Checked the restaurant and opening time on Facebook. Facebook stated the restaurant was open until 9 pm. We drove 4 km from our hotel and reached the restaurant at 7.30 pm and it was closed. It is quite out of the way so very dissapointing to drive this far to just arrive and discover the restaurant chose to close and they did not bother to at least update their Facebook about being closed that day......

Had a couple of dinners here. The first night we went with Burmese cuisine and it was excellent. The tea leaf salad was outstanding. We had two Burmese style curries, one with eggplant and one with pumpkin, both with chicken and they were very tasty and portions were generous. Second night we went with Italian: cannelloni filled with spinach, and spaghetti with fresh tomatoes, capers, black olives, basil and anchovies. The Italian dishes were more than edible, but not up to the standard of the Burmese stuff. All dishes were more than reasonably priced.

Kwang Tung (means: Cantonese) Restaurant is a surprising find-a unique Chinese restaurant in Mae Sot.
The decoration of the entrance, court and the walls was very eloquent with Chinese painting and writing. The restaurant itself was huge. On the day we visited, it was packed with locals: Thai and Chinese. The foods were well prepared: Lamb hotpot, Steamed Shrimp with mashed garlic (this seems to be their specialty) and Fish with black bean sauce which the owner/manager recommended. All were deliciously good. Very surprised that in this small town someone would spend such a huge sum of money to set up a fancy restaurant like this.

Honestly disappointed after Reading such high reviews and ratings. We read the reviews and had high expectations when we sought this place out. Expecting a garden with flowers and plants!
The backyard where the seating/eating area is very basic. The cooking/kitchen area looked unhygienic. The outside toilet was 3rd world.
Having said that, the pakoras and samosas were tasty and reasonably priced. The cold drinks were pleasant.
The craft shop has interesting unusual reasonably priced items for sale.
Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed!

I've come here several times and each time I've enjoyed every bite! I have never left hungry whether I was eating the Western Burger or having one of their curry's. I definitely suggest getting one of their sides. I personally like the onion rings with their homemade sauces. Famous Ray's is defiantly a place to go if you want a good ol' fashion burger or some good local Thai food!

Really pleased we found this place. It's not easy to find but worth looking for.
We had a beef curry, naan bread (10Baht!!) & vegetable samosas washed down with a sweet iced coffee. The place is heaving busy in the morning and packed with locals & a handful of travellers. They have a proper tandor oven which churns out outrageously good naan bread.
Think it closes around midday, so you need to get there in the morning.
Two of us ate for around 120 Baht
