Close to the harbour, this taverna has all the usual Greek specialties on the menu. Plenty of choice and very good value. We always enjoy the house red wine. A friendly welcome as always from Nikos. Sometimes very busy – but just try again the following evening.

Il ristorante si trova nei pressi del porto sotto all'omonimo albergo.
Lets face it, tourists, are always the others and never us, yet, thats what we are when we visit another place as recreation. The Greek cuisine is proud resplendent and delicious mostly within its borders and, sadly for us, less so when we come home and seek the culinary joy of our time in Greece where we live. Well Calypso is a perfect example of a restaurant that delivers hackneyed sub-par lazy Greek food for the uninitiated and seems commercially proud of the fact that we cannot tell the difference. We made the fatal mistake that often faces the unknowing tourist and "followed the crowds" landing .. albeit beautifully just on the waterfront of the port at Lipsi, at Calypso. The name alone might have been a red flag. Our meal consisted primarily of Mezze .. plates worthy of an "all frozen and pre-prepared" supermarket chain in any of the countries me might come from. Floppy soggy Spinach pie, fat drenched doughy courgette fritters that ignored the amazing years old Greek tradition and settled for a British chip shop approximation as fodder for the tourists, a main dish souvlaki was grilled to a tough. dry inch of a life it might hope for and thrown on a plate with chips that had supermarket frozen as a possible badge of honour. The food was patronising at best and inedible at worst and only reminded us that we are tourists after all.stick to the corner of the port .. also reviewed on my profile .. life and your holiday is too short.

wherever you will go in Lipsi you will be wellcomed by nice and smily greek people. Everywhere but the Dilaila restaurant. It is just astonishing how much they can be slow in taking your order and bringing you the dishes. They prepare incredibly good fried potatoes, but you are not allowed to order them because the staff will reply constantly that you can have them only as a side dish to some orders. On the other hand the location is just beautiful and the food is very good (not the best in the island, but the most expensive for sure...).

We went there on our last night and what a disappointment. Having had great food on Lipsi this has to be the worst restaurant on the island. Starters were bland served with stale bread, fish overcooked and just served on a plate, nothing with it...MoreThanks for you time to rate our restaurant. But I would be very gratefull that the next time you will make a rating you will actually have visit a restaurant. Thanks and enjoy your holidays in Lipsi if you ever visited them...

Costa and his family have been running this taverna for at least 19 years that we know of - and they have such a perfect set-up we wouldn't want it to change. Great setting, lovely views if you can get a table near the wall and simple but excellent local food. You know it's almost lunchtime as you lie on the beach when you can smell the charcoal heating up. Great Greek salad, yemitses (stuffed tomato and pepper), souvlaki pork or chicken - and if you're lucky little fishes (whitebait-like). Kalamari fried or stuffed is always tender here.
Wish we were there now!

Stis Vassos tou Aspraki, which has been established since 1956, the day begins with a freshly brewed Greek coffee, light soft music, continuous with ouzo time all noon and late evening,by the sea,up to late night for drinking and dancing.
Joy is often made of simple things and simple the Greeks do amazingly. Savouring the Mezze at the Mezze Street and Ouzo / Stis Vasos tou Aspraki corner has, in three years, quickly become a joyous tradition for us that remains and warms through the hard cold of winter nights back home. This place is hard to miss and simply shouldn't be it is on the corner if the harbour in the port of Lipsi and serves the most amazing Mezze, grilled octopus that has dried in the powerful greek sun all day, grilled squid with lemon and local olive oil, spicy local cheese, delicious olives, tuna sails with lashings of simple and delicious white wine, ouzo or retsina... stay for dinner it is better than the rest we sadly tried next door.

A good bakery of local breads and cakes this is aso a gelateria, tobacconist, wine shop, newsagent, place to hang out, It is more sophisticated than those seeking a true greek island experience may want yet when you ignore the italianate decor and ice cream parlour vibe it has the breads and cakes authentic of the Islands. To my taste I suggest buying the delicious baked goods and eat them at the harbour on a simple table in the breeze or ... if you are lucky aboard your boat.
