Lindau (officially in German: Lindau (Bodensee)) is a major town and an island on the eastern side of Lake Constance (Bodensee in German). It is the capital of the Landkreis or county Lindau, Bavaria, and located near the borders of Austria (Vorarlberg) and Switzerland (St. Gallen and Thurgau). The coat of arms of Lindau town is a linden tree, referring to the supposed origin of the town's name (Linde means linden tree in German). The historic town of Lindau is located on an 0.68-square-kilometre (0.26 sq mi) island, which is connected with the mainland by a road-traffic bridge and a railway dam leading to Lindau station.

Visited the restaurant on a Thursday evening and went for the full meal including wine. It was absolutely fabulous! Every course was delicious, top quality and was accompanied by a first class wine selection. The service team was first-class, very friendly and not too formal. We felt very welcome from the beginning 'til the end of our 4-our feast. This was/is definitely one of the better 1-star restaurants in southern Germany.

I’ve been travelling through Bavaria for three weeks including a few days on Lindau. The food throughout the trip has been variable with few highlights but Weinstube Frey is one of the exceptions. From the outside you could easily miss this restaurant especially as the restaurant itself is on the first floor but seek it out and you won’t be disappointed.
The restaurant is beautiful. Taking you back several hundred years it’s panelled walls, ancient beams and glorious windows truly set the scene for a memorable meal. Like other restaurants in Lindau dining is casual as most people are on holiday and don’t necessarily have the appropriate clothing for a more formal experience.
Service was exceptional for Lindau where I have found most restaurants busy, lacking in atmosphere and very much “ production line”. The staff in Weinstube Frey, although busy were welcoming, friendly and efficient.
The menu is quite small but nether the less there is something for everyone. My Zwiebelrostbraten ( steak with fried onions) was exceptionally good especially the accompanying sauce.
The house wines sourced very locally are also very good.
Overall this was one of the best restaurant experiences, particularly for Lindau. It’s offers great value for money, caring staff, great location and excellent food. I highly recommend you try it and don’t forget to book,

The service is very friendly, attentive, but still unintrusive. The food is delicious, regional cuisine at its bests, the menu has some signature dishes, but there is also always something new to discover. The atmosphere is relaxed, but correct.

Bavarian cuisine
During a recent holiday we ate here on 3 evenings. As in previous visits the food is excellent, and the staff friendly and efficient. We always enjoy eating here when visiting Lindau and would not hesitate to recommended. Booking advisable to avoid disappointment.

We chose this restaurant because it was rated 1st and were quite deceived by the food. Quite average. Food was served outside, in the biergarten, which is nice during warm evenings. However the bar was far away and waiting time for drink was quite long. Food on the contrary arrived right away after the order.

We liked our visit a lot. Service was extremely attentive, friendly and prompt. We've got plenty of help with our food and wine choices, and everything was a step above the usual German fare in a touristy place. People really put some thought and effort into their offering here. Oh, and we didn't need a reservation either. The ambiance is great, we liked the bright modern/old decor combination.

We were looking for a place to eat on our last day of the cycling tour in Lindau. We could not sit outside as there were no tables left but even inside, the warmth was bearable. We had the cold platter - both cheese and mixed platters with ham and paté. Found them delicious - if you are not too hungry, you can easily share one platter between two people. We also tried the soup with liver dumplings and baked potato - both of them simple yet very good.

"Zur Fischerin" is a small family run restaurant and wine bar in the 3ed generation for more than 60 years. You will find a great wine selection as well as culinary delights. The small but however fine menu offers a freshly prepared and exquisite international cuisine. We are looking forward to welcome you for dinner or a glass of wine.
We visited this restaurant on our first night in Lindau. It is located in the old town of Lindau. It is simple yet lovely inside. Food is very good, and service is prompt. This husband-and-wife team seem of have pulled off the nearly impossible feat of delivering good quality dishes in a friendly and efficient manner at an attractive price point. Will definitely return.

Lindau is a pretty place but, as a result, it is teeming with tourists. Thousands of them. And, with that, dozens of expensive, nasty cafes line the streets offering nothing nice at all in a soulless atmosphere.
Feeling a bit disheartened, and in need of Wi-Fi, we were pointed in the direction of a little cafe right at the end of the main drag. As a tourist you would be unlikely to find it, but it is there at the most western end of the waterfront nestled next to the train station.
In short, it is a fantastic place both for food and for ambience. I think it is vegetarian as I didn't notice any meat on the menu, but everything we ate was (really) homemade, fresh and inventive and exceptionally tasty. The menu changed daily but there was always an array of fabulous cakes, salads and quiches. Absolutely brilliant. It is a shop as well, selling very quirky designer housewares - good for a visit for that alone! The staff speak good English too.
We ate and drank here 4 times in two days - one of the best cafes I've ever been to!

Perfectly good meal on the Terrace - nothing special, but different from the usual Bavarian fare on offer most other places. Seating seems to be mostly outside on the little square- a bit buggy, but pleasant in the heat we had. Came to less than €30 for two - drinks and one course.
Caters well for vegans and vegtarians
