Very disappointing. There were only two of us for dinner but were told there would be a 15 minute wait for a table for 2 even tho there were dozens of varying sized empty tables in the restaurant. We ordered spring rolls, another entree, mussels in black bean, another main, rice. The waitress was not elegant in placing the dishes on our table. The mussel dish was very salty and cold before I could even finish it. In the mean time the table two away from us was cleared into a trolley- scrapping of plates, crashing of dishes, spraying of cleaner. NZ $72. Couldn’t get out quick enough!

The place looks like a pop up restaurant in a school gym with absolutely no attraction whatsoever Food very ordinary indeed Service (just) ok. The problem is that the other restaurants in the village are average as well. Next time would consider self catering

Enjoyed a meal here every night during our recent visit. There was a very varied choice of food, all perfectly cooked and presented with some options for smaller appetites. Views of Lake Tekapo from the large windows, helpful, happy, friendly staff enhance the pleasure. Very popular so booking is recommended

The staff is extremely rude & argumentative & just do not know how to behave with guests. The staff should first go and see how to other restaurants staff behave and learn some basic manners.Very arrogant, and doesn’t know how to look after the customers.
We ordered some dishes for our total vegetarian friends & clearly informed them so. One of the dish came with seafood in it & a lady from the kitchen came & argued endlessly with us.

Astro Cafe on top of Mt John, beside the Mt John Observatory. Operated by Earth and Sky Limited, with office situated in Lake Tekapo township.
We visited as the wind gusts were picking up speed at this altitude. (So much so that it wasn't really possible to stand around outside.) We kept ourselves safe inside and just soaked up the amazing views. The staff were really helpful, made excellent coffee in double-quick time and reassured us that we would be fine on the access road. The staff do a great job in a confined space and everyone was cheerful and keeping an eye on the customers.

If you want an authentic Kiwi experience amongst the tourist traps of Tekapo then come to the Tavern. We had an excellent time with super friendly service. The staff couldn’t have gone out of their way More to accomodate our family. Good fun times and great food. Great to see the locals frequenting this place too.

Really regretted making plans to call in on journey south. Not as reviewed. Unreliable. Kitchen closed to enable them to do other work making filled rolls perhaps for bus load. Felt uncomfortable. Just took a coffee. Absolutely not for us. Drove on to Nichols Garden Cafe in Cromwell.

Rakinui Restaurant celebrates this abundance of fine fare, capturing the flavours of the region perfectly with a contemporary farm to table philosophy. The wine list carries a selection of fine New Zealand wines to complement your dining selection. Enjoy the spectacular views of Lake Tekapo in a relaxed and casual dining setting.
We had both dinner and then breakfast at this restaurant in Peppers Bluewater Resort. Reservations for dinner are essential and this will ensure that you get a table with a good view of the lake. Our Asian platter of dumplings, wontons, and egg roll was good and the high country salmon entree nicely prepared with bok choy and carrots. Since the resort caters to bus tours and other groups, the dining room can become noisy. This was particularly true at breakfast. Breakfast buffet had lots of options, but I felt the food was only average quality.

Went for dinner and arrived around 8.20ish and were told that they closed at 9 and they were not accepting people to dine-in anymore. We said we wanted pizzas and they said only take away. Unfortunately, not many more options around, we had to get pizzas from there. There was only 1 table with people inside as everybody after us was told takeaway only. We ordered our pizzas at 8.25ish and had to wait over 30 mins to get the pizzas. We were angry at the poor service, but the only thing that saved them was that the pizzas were nice.
