Billing itself as one of Denmark's friendliest towns, Kolding certainly appears welcoming—its streets lined with cherry red Danish flags that seem to be constantly waving hello. A medieval castle towers over vibrant parks that bloom with flowers and medicinal spices. On balmy days families will be grateful for SlotssøBadet, an extraordinary waterpark that's a blast for all ages.

The ambience is quintessential for an Italian restaurant, and the host explained the Danish menu choices. I'm very impressed by the tortellini entree; it combines many wonderful flavors in each mouthful. Bistecca and haricots verte were well prepared and satisfying. I only wish it came with bread, but maybe I could have ordered it.

A colleague and I had dinner at the Mokka Cafe which was recommended to us by our hotel.
The menu is a mix of traditional dishes and some not so traditional (more gourmet like) items.
I had a burger, which was big and very tasteful. Fries are ordinary. My colleague had the port dish which he found excellent.
Service was good but we had some waiting time before we got our meals.

Den Blå Cafe (The Blue Cafe) is the oldest café in town. Our concept is simple! Fresh ingriedients from Denmark and France, casual atmosphere and service inspired by the French bistro style.
In a town that is starving for reasonable food and service it's not surprising that this comes top just now. But check again in 6 months. I was impressed today anyway.
Both meat and fish were good. (Did not try desert - and they have never heard of Calvados).

The restaurant, Over Aaen "Above the River" is perched on the top floor in the heart of Kolding. With views of the creek and a lovely relaxed atmosphere, personal service and an ambitious gastronome level. We challenge you with exciting food that stirs the senses and give you a good experience. Basically we work with Spanish ingredients as we have great experience in this field, but also uses many other international commodities postseason. The preparation of handle raw materials made entirely of home cooking and the kitchen's temper. This means that we prepare and create new dishes and tapas after season, our passionate, skilled chefs.
We had a Go Dream gift card for three courses. Good food, good service, no complaints. Other reviews mention the temperature in the restaurant. We arrived at 6pm and it was toasty warm. The radiator next to us was on 5. By about 7.30pm it was colder in the restaurant but still okay, and our radiator was working hard. It may have something to do with the front door. So with later Reservations, wear warmer clothes! Other reviews mention a waiter who is hard to understand. Yes, he's Spanish, but if you concentrate you can learn something - he's attentive and he knows his stuff. Their red wine is really good :-)

(Before you read this comment, acknowledge that I am a sous chef in a gourmet restaurant and deal with meat and food every day, I'm not a wanna be) I've been looking forward to taste some great food. The price of the menu card makes you expect some actual fabric napkins and not some paper ones, but this is just a detail. The service was very bad though there were only 3/4 tables, it's never pleasant to have a non-smiling waitress tossing to your table the menu cards. I ordered some prawns with chili and garlic, the chef brought it himself and you could actually see it was just something that have been staying in a fridge for too long and cooked in the oven for 5' on 120 degrees cause it gave back a lot of water, which made the dish have absolutely no taste. My girlfriend had some mussels, one third was not even opened (lack of cooking?), on top of that we found some aluminum in some of them. But the most disappointing thing, I ordered a Tartare, which was served to me well done, the meat was actually cooked! When we got the check I mentioned it to the waitress who said that she already knows, it might be a good idea to mention it to your customers BEFORE they order a RAW meat and get it served well done ! The only thing that was good was the bread, and a decent house wine. The frame and location does definitely NOT equal the prices and quality of the food.

Madkaelderen Koldinghus is located at the Danish royal castle, Koldinghus, in the town of Kolding. Enjoy a completely unique dining experience in the ancient vaulted dungeons. Our menu is a modern interpretation of classic Danish dishes cooked and prepared by using locally sourced produce. Madkælderen Koldinghus is open for lunch every day from 11:30 - 15:00. Here we serve our popular lunch buffet with Danish classics like herring, prawns, smoked salmon, liver paté, meatballs (frikadeller), potato salad, rib roast and much more. We are open for evening dining Thursday, Friday and Saturday (reservation required). Each month features a new fixed menu of 6 servings based on seasonal ingredients. The evening starts with an aperitif and snacks, followed by a 4-course gourmet menu. The evening is rounded off with coffee, liqueurs and sweets. Through the evening you can retrieve wines from our wine buffet.
We went for dinner in this resturant based in the cellar of the Castel Kolding hus. Very unique location.
You get the full package when dining here. Food, wine, water, coffee. for 600kr. Its cheap for what you get.
Very tasty food, prepared with love. All the wine you can drink, you have to get it yourself...and this is perhaps what we disliked the most. Drink all you want concept. Not that most people didnt "abuse" this, but some did, and got somewhat drunk. Somewhat out of order for this kind of place.
But apart from this, a very nice experience and somewhere to go back to when in Kolding.

A traditional Danish Inn, with amazing quality Danish cuisine and an extremely warm welcome. The food cannot be faulted on quality, quantity or taste, The Black Pot was probably the best meal we had on our entire Danish holiday, with the Asparagus and Meatball soup a close second, although only a starter it was a meal in itself! The landlord was extremely helpful and welcoming, as were his staff and they really made us feel at home. The room was clean, comfortable and of a standard you'd expect from an Inn. The only downside being that there was no double bed, so we had to push the two singles together, however, this is not unusual for Kro accommodation in Denmark so wasn't a problem. Can't wait to go back!

Came here recently whilst staying nearby, the restaurant is fabulous, such an amazing selection of meats and salads. The Chef was very good at explaining all the different cuts of meats and the choices of how they had been cooked.
Wish we had this restaurant in England!
Will be returning to Denmark as soon as possible and definitely will be going back here.
The choice of meats were excellent, i enjoyed trying cuts that i wouldn't have normally had the option to try.
There was then a large selection of fries/potatoes/vegetables etc and a full salad bar for you to choose from and the prices are really good as well.
If you're visiting Kolding then this is a must!
