Things to do in Karlstejn

This place has it all: A lovely location, on a covered Terrace overlooking the Berounka river one train stop from Karlstejn castle; Pleasant and fast service (yes, it's possible in the CR!), and very good, simple (stay away from the more complicated attempts) food at extremely reasonable prices (they even manage to make some of the Czech standards edible!). The place is packed with bikers (of the bicycle kind!) and families on an outing, so you might have to wait a little bit, but it's definitely worth it! Non-Czech speakers may have a problem (I didn't czech, ha ha) as this is very much a local experience...but a great one!!!

Original Czech restaurant, located next to the medieval castle Karlstejn, offers local specialties and excellent beer. You are welcome to enjoy it on sunny Terrace during summer or in pleasant interior during winter, where you appreciate warmth and specific atmosphere of the restaurant, complemented by stylish fireplace. Free Wifi and parking is available. Bar is open every day from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm.
We celebrated Silvester 2016 at this restaurant and it was really great. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. We had a wonderful New Year's Eve with a great firework and a glass of sparkling wine at 00:00! This was all for a really moderate place. Highly recommended and we will definitely visit this restaurant again when we come to Karlstejn next time.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food we received at this restaurant located right under Katlstejn Castle and by the reasonable prices. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Nice place, friendly people and very good food. Try the wiener schnitzel (rizek) and potato croquettes. Very good dessert banana split: banana with ice, fresh fruit and chocolate sauce. The service is high quality. They make time for the guests and the prices are low. In the summer outside places in the sun, in winter inside places together with local people. The owners are two people (father and son??). I was there when the restaurant was closed in wintertime but they cooked special for me a meal. Since that time I came back several times when I was in Czech republic. Every time a pleasure!

This restaurant has a prime location in Karlstein, second biggest touristic place around after Prague. Therefore we expected much higher prices for foreigners. Still they were of average level for country. Food was not bad at all. Just service might be much quicker.
Considering other very negative experience we had the same day in Treban, this restaurant seemed exemplary to us.

We visit this restaurant quite frequently as we live in nearby village. I can recommend for good atmosphere both in summer when you can sit outside in the garden or in winter time when you can sit inside the restaurant with open fireplace. Very often they offer venison but mostly we chose steak tartare.

We are a family restaurant with unique atmosphere of an old tavern specializing in homemade traditional czech cuisine with main focus on game meals. In a shadow of one of the most well-known czech castle, Karlstejn, a house built in 15th century, at the top of the Karlstejn street, awaits and invites you.
I walked into this restaurant round the top corner of the main street, just before the footpath to Castle Karlštejn, by mere chance one morning to ask the way to the municipal house, wrongly thinking it must be near the castle entrance (big mistake, it is on the other side of the river in the valley...), and found a young couple (the owners, as it turned out) lighting an open fire before opening. They were very helpful and I made a mental note of its name (‘Holy Realm’, which refers to the Holy Roman Empire and the role the castle has played in its history). A few hours later, not having found any other restaurant open, my future wife and I decided to have lunch there; we were the only guests. We ordered two carafes of wine and I was immediately impressed by the elegant and proper glasses put before us, as well as good cutlery and starched linen napkins. That favourable impression was strengthened by the presentation of the Czech dishes we ordered: somebody had clearly thought about making them look attractive. This was good Czech cuisine (no, not a contradiction in terms...) with a modern twist, at very reasonable prices.
To make what could be a long story short: we decided to book our wedding dinner there for Valentine’s Day, a full month later, and asked to discuss this there and then. The young owner turned out to be the chef, whereas his wife looked after the front of the house (alone at that time in the low season). Over the weeks we refined the menu and table settings – by email – and found the couple helpful and knowledgeable. We ate there three more times before the big day and were somewhat saddened to learn that the locals had a tendency to slag them off simply because they were seen as ‘intruders’ and offered interesting food many locals probably don’t understand...
Try it! The restaurant is unpretentious and deserves support. And WE want to find it open and successful for when we next come back!

Tradional food isn't for everyone. Fortunately, this place has some reasonable alternatives.
It's also reasonably priced, and with its fine al fresco views, on a fine day it's a very pleasant experience.
As with all al fresco dining in Czechia, you'll need some arrangement with the local wasps!

Tartar the way it is supposed to be, Great beef with dumplings (knudelky) beef sirloin perfectly roasted and juicy, nice fried cheese with roared thin-sliced vegetables, fried chicken filet with salad, fries and a salad with fried blue cheese and a river of pivo (beer), for 1192czk is more than ok! AND a smiling waiter (!?) The best place in Karlstejn!
