A genuine Austrian restaurant with Austrian specialties, own production of cheese, butter and own flesh and own grown vegetables. After 2 ½ hours of hiking you will be up to the restaurant with a breathtaking view and wonderful food and service of the staff. There are family members who work there. Very reasonably priced food and drink.

waiting for 1 hour for a simple pizza and pasta. In my pizza was a large piece of sharp plastic. if I would have swallowed it i would now have been in hospital! The taste of the pizza was not very good compared to a real italian pizza from, for example , La Puccia in Grado Italy. But of course that is a matter of taste. I can not recomment the pizza nor the pasta which had a verry thin taste. Curious was that the waitress talked to us with a german-italian accent, but to some local girls without any accent at all. As compensation my pizza was not added to the bill.

È Anche Un Albergo Ma Noi Abbiamo Provato Solo Il Ristorante.
Nice friendly place serving traditional Austrian food with some more modern snacks and dishes. Very good beer and friendly service.

Had lunch here while winter walking. Bit tricky ordering in our rusty German, as patron did not speak much English, but after some comic moments, we got there.
The food was lovely - traditional hearty mountain dishes. Save some space for the pudding - we had Kaisershmarrn - which is a massive fluffy pancake served with apple sauce - one serving is more than ample for two. Views down the valley were good.

Heaven so near: amidst the spectacular Grossglockner mountain scenery, modern architecture reaches towards the clouds of style and enjoyment. With more than 60 three-thousand meter peaks in front of you, chilling, dining, staying overnight or simply ‘being above it all’ at the Adler Lounge is easy.
This restaurant’s main selling point is the breathtaking view. To reach the restaurant you need to take several cable lifts from Matrei, from Kals it is only one cable lift, but it’s worth it. You can see Alps all around you. If you are a skier it a perfect place to take a rest and enjoy the atmosphere of the alpen skiing life. We really enjoyed the Terrace with the sun seats. The restaurant is very nicely furbished, modern yet comfortable. The food was great and would keep you going for the rest of skiing day. The spinach-cheese dumplings with tomatoes were really delicious. The only problem was the service. If you come at the busy lunch hour, it could easily take 1.5 hours to have the lunch. It’s better to come before 11.30 or after 14:00 if you just want a quick meal. To get their attention took quite some time as there were many people wanting to have lunch there. It took us 30 minutes before the waitress came to us. Then we waited another 30 minutes for the food – if you have an intention to have a lunch there while skiing it will take you around 1,5hours. But overall we like the restaurant and the charming mountain views.

We visited this restaurant with six other people. Although we had booked beforehand, the restaurant area is quite large and we had plenty of room. The staff were welcoming and spoke a certain amount of English. Food was good and plentiful. Would certainly go back again.

Well apparently this is not the right place looking for Michelin Star kind of kitchen.
But if you are looking for Austria's traditional dishes you are at the right place. You find a selection of dishes freshly cooked from fresh ingredients and well served. Vegetables and meat are cooked to the right point as ordered.
Typically you have to watch out as in particular the dishes served in pans are really hot out if the stove. Size of the dishes goes ok even if you are hungry after hiking or skiing - though don't expect oversized portion - it is just about right.
The service is really nice and and very fast. If you are showing up with some more people, a lager family or so, they just try to get you seated as nice as possible, if space is left. And for the smaller ones they have kids menus available.
Wine card I've not tested.
Price of the dishes are very fair and affordable.
Interior style is the kind of "Austrian rustique" - which is not my personal favor but it is all nice and clean.
Situated is the restaurant left from the Main Street if you go downhill but you have to watch out for the signs. Good thing it is still in heart of Matrei and even after a few more beer there is no need for a car as it is walking distance to any place within Matrei.

Every day on our ski trip me and my wife went there to drink gluhwine and espresso and we sit outside on super comfortable chairs with sheep skins....

If you do not plan to hike the Großglockner, then you should drive to the Lucknerhaus at least. The spot offers an amazing view on Austria's highest mountain. I can as well recommend to do a wildlife watching tour with the nationapark rangers from the National Park Hohe Tauern Matrei in Osttirol. The tour takes about 2 hours and with a binocular you will see the big 5 of Austria (ibex, chamoix, marmots, eagle, hare). Defenitely worth it. A Kaiserschmarrn or Käsespätzle at the Lucknerhaus round up the day perfectly.

Wandering the streets looking for dinner and followed a large group into this restaurant.
Spotlessly clean and very welcoming. Owner was charming and very friendly and funny.
Excellent wines and freshly cooked pizza and calzone.
Nice to have something Italian which made a change.
Would not hesitate to recommend.
