I planned to visit the no 1 rated soba shop in Izumo but the shop closed at 2:30 that day due to kitchen maintenance. I asked the waiter to recommend one nearby and she told me Arakiya is her favorite and the taste is very good. It's really true.
The shop signature soba is in a three tier bowl (三代). First pour the egg into the top tier and after finishing the soba, pour the remaining sauce into the second bowl with yam. Then so on to the last bowl with soba only. I have tried many famous soba shop before and eating soba in this way is new to me. In fact, it's very practical of not wasting anything.
don't forget to buy home some dry soba. they are equally good.

Shimane is famous for Soba and one of the must go place in Shiname. My friends from Shimane recomended here for Soba place.
We had "Three different kinds of Soba" and "Soba with Chicken bowl". Especially I like Chicken bowl which tastes yammy soba soup.
Thanks for the refreshing lunch for a very reasonable price!

Yagumo is a great way to experience Shimane's famous soba noodles. The soba restaurant is located right across from Izumo Taisha's bus station. The little food replica's outside the restaurant are what attracted me to the restaurant. Yagumo has a wide array of soba dishes to choose from. Many people were ordering an option that had many small soba bowls, sort of like a soba sampler. My soba dish was delivered to the table not long after I ordered. It was delicious. Next time I go I think I will definitely try the "soba sampler".

This place serves mostly sushi, with the main Seating area being the counter with the sushi chef behind it. It's a small place with maybe 10 seats at the counter and maybe 8 more in a separate room in the back. Sitting at the counter was really nice, because you could see teh sushi chef at work and there are also all the fish and other seafood they serve on display.
There is no English menu and the staff speaks practically no English, too. However, they were really friendly and helpful, even though my partner and I speak about five words of Japanese between the two of us. The menu has pictures and you can also just point at the fish at the counter that you would like to have.
We had the nigiri set and the maki set, which was absolutely sufficient for two. The sets are probably best value for money. The atmosphere is relaxed and there were a lot of local people coming and going all the time. Highly recommend this place when you are staying in Izumo and need a good place to eat away from the Taisha and town center.

Lovely soba. The 3 styled chilled soba is a must try. The queue can get big so get there early. Staff is also very friendly. Highly recommended!
