Stations Inn Hokitika features an award winning restaurant offering a la carte dining. The New Zealand cuisine is perfectly complemented by a full range of locally brewed Monteith's beer and an excellent selection of quality New Zealand wines.
We stayed here a lot last year and couldn't fault the rooms, the service, the restaurant and the views.............we were always given a friendly West Coast welcome. The rooms are spacious and all have views of the sea, and the meals in the restaurant are delicious.
Excellent rates for what you receive - the hosts are excellent.

This popular local pub serves good gastro pub style meals and there is something on the menu for everyone. Our lamb shanks were excellent and melt in your mouth tender, the slow cooked belly pork was very tasty but a little bit dry. The sides of potatoes and vegetables were delicious and the portions generous. We were staying at the Stumpers Hotel and it was great to be able to walk next door for dinner - given the unpredictable West Coast weather.

I had to try the specialty, the whitebait pizza. I am usually an adventurous eater but it just wasn’t working for me. Whitebait is a tiny little fish with a very mild flavor. On the pizza it felt like there were a hundred little eyes looking at me which was kind of strange. Other pizzas looked more delicious. Maybe whitebait is an acquired taste. Service was good and it is a very nice casual spot.

This magnificently positioned restaurant specialises in New Zealand Cuisine and is elevated above the water so you can relax and enjoy a top quality dining experience while watching the waves break on the beach. Open for espresso, drinks, platters and dinner. Available for hire for private functions.
Surely just about the best restaurant in Hokitika, ocean views, great service and attentive staff. Food is beautifully prepared and cooked, nice ingredients and imaginative. We read some of the poor reviews beforehand but decided to give it a try, how wrong were those reviews! Really pleased we tried it. Nice wines, average prices, good service, great food, lovely sweets, and great views - what more do you want!!

We have a dedicated cheese room stocked with a boutique selection of New Zealand cheeses and gourmet foods to enjoy in the café, at your hotel or on a picnic. We also host a live bee display and have an extensive range of honey for sale. Treat yourself to the best, Stella Café - Simply Superior Food, Superior Service
Breakfast was superb - freshly made, served piping hot. And even though it wasn't necessary (when is it ever?), we shared a scone. (We would have called it a cinnamon roll, but the woman who made it called it a scone. Scone it is! Was.)
There are live bees in a see-through display. And jars of honey to buy! (The jars are plastic, which means they might have a better chance of getting home intact!)
The cheese room was very inviting, but we had to pass.

Great selection of food and also choosing the range of level of the curry that you want. Laaska is in a take away cup so you can take it with you when you leave. Everyone enjoyed their food and naan and left feeling full, which is great considering the appetites of teen boys.
It was busy so we were lucky to get a seat- you may want to consider ringing ahead and booking.

We are a fully licenced cafe serving wines and beers, catering for all tastes. We have an extensive breakfast menu including the "Big Kiwi", Eggs Benedict, Sweet and Savoury Pancakes plus many more options. We also have a variety of lunch and snack option. Try our delicious West Coast Whitebait while sipping on a nice glass of Pino Gris. Free Wifi is also available for customers.
We had a quick brunch here. It's a self serve for many options (e.g. scones, pies, rolls) but cooked dishes and hot drinks are ordered at the checkout.
I had a rather flat date scone coated with icing sugar. Not a lot of dates evident.
My tea was ok. My wife's latte was made with burnt beans and was very bitter. Undrinkable.
The woman at the checkout was friendly but made my tea for me on the spot leading to a buildup in the queue. She did the same for the person ahead of us. Having someone different dedicated to all hot drinks would have made for a better flow of customers.
There are other options for eating in Hokitika. I'd try them first.

Hands down the most disappointing fish and chips I’ve ever had. Fish tasted ok but was $10 for a small piece, potato scallop was like cardboard and the squid rings tasted incredibly processed. Smallest scoop of chips we’ve ever seen.

The Woodstock Hotel is a great local bar and restaurant overlooking the Hokitika river. We have 8 beers on tap including Guinness and regular specials throughout the week. Monday is Monday Madness with great meal deals. Tuesday is 2 for Tuesday with 2 meals for the price of 1. Every Sunday night we host a spit roast and music jam, anyone welcome to join in. Check out our Website. Great Meals and a Great Reputation.
Decent pub food, good selection of beers, friendly staff and (we were lucky) good music. We met some nice people there and enjoyed the party going on. Not close to Hokitika.

We had a quick drink on the way to getting a pizza, although, if you plan it right, you can bring your pizza here and enjoy their lovely wines and beers with your dinner otherwise they provide, what looks like, a good cheese board.
Excellent jazz playing in the background, nice lady in charge
