Fascinating limestone hills and towers lure tourists from China and around the world to this city of 630,000. Popular sights include 120-hectare Seven Star Park, Reed Flute Cave, 200-foot high Fubo Hill and the much-loved Elephant Trunk Hill. Guilin is very popular as a starting point for Li River cruises to Yangshuo and for visits to the nearby minority villages of Yao, Miao and Dong. April, May, September and October are the best months to visit, as they avoid the extremes of heat and rain.

Located in the Neng Ren Temple. Great selection and wide variety of vegetarian dishes served in big portions.
This is probably the best value restaurant I have ever visited. The food is excellent, healthy, not too salty or oily. All vegan dishes, around 50 different ones. At only 38 yuan it is a steal. Also very clean and in a really nice environment, next to a buddhist temple. A must visit if in Guilin. Note that buffet dinner starts at 6pm and finishes at 8pm.

We chose to eat here as our hotel recommended it. We ordered an Indian curry - came as rice slop flavoured with Keens - and chicken rice - very very dry. People around us though were eating tempting dishes.
Choose a table carefully too as the tables are very short and your legs can get stuck.
Cheap though - just choose carefully

Cafe Nissi is now moved into a new location and providing a 100% smoke free environment! ** Breakfast service is currently unavailable **
While we went here for dinner, because of the very limited menu (a couple of pastas and burgers), I think this restaurant is best suited to drinks and relaxing. The drinks and cakes menu is extensive.
Nissi is a great place in a great part of Guilin, on the river and so a much more picturesque and laid back atmosphere than downtown Guilin. It's a great place to catch up with things - a good book, emails, etc. There is wifi and the Seating and setting is very relaxed. The staff speak excellent English too which is refreshing!

Great little outdoor cafe with inexpensive beer prices right on the pedestrian street in Guilin.
I ordered the pizza after being away from NY for 2 weeks and it was just as good as most pizzerias in my neighborhood.
The girl waiting on my section Vicky was a sweet local who every day (3) taught me another Chinese sentence.

Opposite the Waterfall hotel beside the lake. Formerly named Congee City. More rustic than slick but the food's ok and the nplace is open 'til late, which is unusual especially in this part of Guilin. It'sa useful address, I think. DW
We recently spent almost three weeks in China, and had many fantastic meals. This place was the most memorable....serving seriously outstanding food. We had arrived in Guilin in the early evening and were pretty hungry. We quickly checked into our hotel (next door) and invited our guide to join us at HIS favorite restaurant. Good choice!
Our guide ordered for us...snails in sauce, chow fun, rice in bamboo leaves, and beef with vegetables. We washed it all down with delicious Chinese beer. Everything just about perfect.....and the cost for the three of us was about $26 US. Amazing. If you are in Guilin don't miss this restaurant.

We visited McFound on a suggestion from our hotel. We were skeptical when we looked at the options on the menu.
We ordered exclusively Chinese dishes and were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was.
The dumpling dish stood out as the best dish but everything was good.
I'd suggest a visit here for anyone visiting Guilin.

If you've been traveling in China for a while you know it is difficult to get fresh greens-eggplant skin are excellent as are the green beans. In addition to the girls and the above-mentioned place we also have sweet Taro balls and best yet mango balls both very sweet.

One of the great disappointments about eating in China is the appalling standard of most restaurants : low quality ingredients , unimaginative cooking , dirty premises , rude indifferent staff , selfish smokers (in violation of local laws). Guilin is no different
This restaurant at least tried - they made good attempts at Spanish dishes , staff were friendly & helpful (all were foreign students) , premises were clean.
Its a welcome change from the usual poor standards

As a loyal Shangri-La visitor I know what to expect from the café restaurants in their hotel. I wasn't disappointed. Very correct English staff very helpful (allergic to some food) and every time warning that in that dish could be something I was allergic to ! Some European restaurants could take an example!!!
Price a bit high but you're at a 5+ stars hotel ! And if you a regular Golden Circle member you enjoy for free using your points.
Even if your not staying at the hotel and you like some real good Western food you should come here !

Away from usual loud and confusing restaurant, Mc Found is a sanctuary in Guilin ☺️
The servers knew enough English and the menu showed English translations also.
The food was surprisingly cheap given the volume and taste, and the speed it was served to us. They even had an hourglass placed on your table to time their service.
Loved their friend salted egg pumpkin, fried pancakes with beef, and their honey pork BBQ.
Wish we could have known of this restaurant earlier so we could've had an easier time.
