This is a family restaurant. They specialize in chicken, but also offer pizza, hamburgers, sandwiches, salads, and snacks. They were extremely busy, but the server was friendly, and the service was fast. I found their prices to be very reasonable. My four piece chicken dinner with a roll, and two sides, was only $11.95. First the chicken is marinated in a brine overnight. Coated with very tasty ingredients. Then, the chicken is deep fried in a pressure cooker, which most others do not do, Once you have tried it, no others will do!
I believe this chain is only in Manitoba. It was started in Carman,MB in 1978. Since this visit a few weeks ago, we have found, I believe, four locations in Winnipeg, and went to one the other day. If you like chicken, I would highly recommend that you try this!

This restaurant seemed to be the one place you could have a sit down meal with views of the lake. Unfortunately, when we came for lunch, there were no seats on the patio. We were seated promptly in the dining room and did not get the views as part of our dining experience. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We had the French onion soup, wings and cashews and cranberry salad. The prices are fair. The food was acceptable but nothing that left you saying " I can't wait to come back here again!" And I believe it could be that place tweaking the menu, going a direction with the dining room decor and atmosphere, drink specials, lunch specials. It could be the shining star it is waiting to be.

Whitecaps has a warm and cozy, somewhat dated atmosphere that is certainly comfortable. We were warmly greeted by Jazz and promptly seated. Our dinner arrived in a timely fashion and both entrees were very good. My wife had the Lobster Tail and thoroughly enjoyed it and I the Prime Rib which was excellent. It was served with an accompaniment of mashed potatoes that were the best I had tasted in years. Overall a good experience and excellent value for money. We will most certainly return.

This pizza place is a gem. Get there early as it fills fast. The staff are attentive but not pushy. The service is excellent as is the food. The restaurant is extremely clean. We had pizza and a salad, both were excellent. The house wine great and the glass it was served in a delight as was the frosty mug of beer my partner ordered. You cant go wrong dining here as all of the menu items that went by our table looked delicious.

Quite likely the best breakfasts to be found in Gimli. Super fresh tasting meals served with great coffee and the friendliest atmosphere. This is what small town eateries should all be like. We will return time and time again.

If you love "PROPER" fish [pickerel is best] and chips... and LOVE ice cream [many flavours to choose from] then this is for you!! However, if your tastes are "more eclectic", the substantial menu will delight you!! If you like to chat with the owner-- or the waitresses-- they are delightful!!! When in Gimli, Chris' is A MUST!!

Pro's:
-Ordered sausage and eggs and ham eggs. See pics for huge portions. They have to-go containers ready by the counter.
-Large breakfast is only $7.69. I can't imagine how large their hungry man breakfast must be.
-Small-town diner atmosphere.
-Friendly service.
Con's:
-Restaurant is a little dated but you're not going there for the atmosphere.

After an long tour motorbike ride from Winnipeg, we were hungry. What we didn't know, is there was a cat show going on. It was packed and Centre street was closed. After a walk to view the cars, we found the Ship and Plough, it was packed so it must be good. The Pickrel fish tacos were superb and the club Sandwich very good. Despite the crowd, our food was out in a very timely manner, we were actually surprised. Only comment, order more if you're looking for a hungry man meal, portions ate small. All in all, good food, fantastic service! I would return.
