Gamlitz (Slovene: Gomilnica) is a municipality in the district of Leibnitz in Styria, Austria. In the first known document that mentions it (dated from 1145), the settlement is called Gomilnitz, a reference either to the Slavic gomilca which denotes a small hill, or to gom (a group or chain of hills); indeed Gamlitz is situated among and between rolling hills. The tradition of the local castle goes back to the year 1111.

Everyone knows that wine and food are a marriage made in heaven. At the Sattlerhof, they discovered this a long time ago. For more than 20 years, this happy symbiosis has been lived to the utmost: fine eating, fine living.
It is no good idea to go to Südsteiermark at the beginnig od July, because many chefs are taking holidays and the places are almost closed. It was not the case od Sattlerhof, the Chef was probably on holidays and his deputy was on Saturday probably home with his family and I didnt know untill today, who was preparing our meal. Bad experience is also experience.

We came for early dinner with our 2,5 yo daughter. Service was good and our waitress spoke very good English. They even had English menu. High chairs for kids are available. We had pumpkin soup which was big and fantastic. The backhendl (local speciallty, deep fried bread crumbed chicken) was bit dissapointing. But this is our favorite Styrian dish so we have high expectations. Reasonably priced.

A visit to this lovely countryside for us is a must almost every year. This year was a perfect match of good weather and good food and wine! The owner as friendly and helpful as every year and the young generation already is stepping in her footsteps! Also such a dog friendly restaurant, just to have in mind! Looking forward to next time!

Me and my wife came here for the day in the sun, eat the standard brettlejaus and sampled the wine as always. The waitress was very attentive and was very quick to deliver the food when it was ready. The restaurant was so full that the food took so long to come but also this could be a reflection on the kitchen itself. From what I could tell myself it was a pleasant balance. The food was perfectly acceptable.
The main highlight for me was the red wines from the vineyard, the zweigelt had such a nice body and texture I bought a bottle for the coming winter.
Worthwhile to visit if just for the wine tasting.

1st of all if you like Traminer white wine then this is the place to go and buy direct from the producer. The Traminer at this vineyard has won a gold medal for his wine. I have bought several bottles from here in the past and have always been delighted at the quality and taste.
For the buschenshank the food is very good quality but the service is some what lacking. For a standard brettlejaus it takes quite a long time to come from the kitchen and bearing in mind everything is uncooked it takes some understanding as to why. One other thing is that the amount of bread you get with your brettlejaus is quite limited compared to other buschenshanks. On the whole a good place to eat and drink but more drink

Denk is a modern restaurant, made of wood and glass. Denk impresses with the "new" house and a phenomenal chef.
Tip: Enjoy a culinary journey (Do not ask too much)
We ate:
- Carpaccio with ice cream made of mayonnaise
- Cooked oyster in a sauce
- Cod with caviar, pumpkin, carrot
- Lobster with beetroot and carrots
- Slovenian cattle steak, sweet peas
- Chocolate mousse, mascarpone and ice cream made of black sesame
All the dishes were phenomenal, exciting, sophisticated.
All this good food you can pair with interesting wines. Thay have a wide selection of Slovenian and InternatIional wines (also French wines which can hurt your the wallet).
I recommend a bottle of wine, rather than wine by the glass
Top restaurant (food, ambience, staff)
