Set between Rome and Naples amid the so-called Ulysses Riviera, gorgeous Gaeta overlooks the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea. Its history as a resort dates back to Imperial Rome. Nearby sites include the first-century BC mausoleum of general Lucius Munatius Plancus. Its old town is mostly medieval, showcased by narrow alleys, the massive 13th-century castle and the 12th-century Cathedral of Assunta e Sant'Erasmo. For relaxing, lovely and central Serapo Beach is a favored locale.

The waitor Massimo was really the difference here, as most restaurants in Italy rely on fresh local ingredients, in season and the food isn't overworked - so good food is the norm. This charming waitor helped us select the correct food, he read each of us spot on. Food was excellent with the added bonus of live music on the Thursday night we were there. We had a great evening.

Loved this place for its ambience and friendly staff especially the owners. The place is always buzzing and the subs are a treat so fresh and tasty. It was a great place to meet locals and other travellers and have one of their special cocktails. I cant wait to come and visit again.

Attention! If you want to eat here arrive early otherwise your name go on waitlist!
We were lucky to arrive early, before Italian dinner time. Tried several daily offer and form the fix menu as well. All were fantastic.
We have chosen a big bottle of beer which turned out to be Belgian and we wanted local stuff (but it was tasteful). That was the only disappointing thing which was not a matter. We can highly recommend to try this place!
PS. thay talk very good English which is very rare in this part of Italy

FIXED MENU ONLY. . . 5 ANTIPASTO + 1st course + 2nd course + desert + shot glass of liquor. Glass of Wine and bottle of Water and bread all included for fixed price. 2 persons = 44 Euros. I am not a seafood lover but variety of seafood - Mussels, Calamari, etc. . Seafood Linguine. Very cordial owner and wait staff that give great service.
Located in narrow alley off Independence Street near Corso Cavour.
About 10 tables in size. Nothing fancy. You must love seafood to enjoy. Would not personally return as I am not a seafood lover. Certainly not a RED LOBSTER type restaurant but likely fresh seafood from the MED sea.
Cash only. NO credit cards. . . 8:30pm Feb 7/14

Great little restaurant tucked away. We went here as it was near our B&B. The food was great, we had some amazing pizza's, but also the seafood pasta and steak were good too. Fresh food, good service, friendly staff and great wine. This place has it all, especially if you don't fancy going into the old town.

Every time I go in Gaeta, I take a Tiella at "Antico Forno Giordano".
My favorite is the one with octopus but also the tiella with onion is very good.
It is need go or call early because tiella otherwise terminates, the owner does not make it in large quantities. Few but good.
A tiella with octopus for two costs about 8 euro and it is very good

TEMPORARY CLOSURE until the 9th of February
The food was amazing. Parking is difficult but that's not the restaurants fault so people need to get over that. The service was very good but everything in Italy is slow so if they are busy expect some waiting. Great time and the wife loved it. The view is breath taking from outside right before sunset.

Chose this restaurant after Reading reviews. Not disappointed.
The menu and wine lists were of a good standard and the meals that we chose were well presented and very tasty.
This restaurant had a very unusual steak menu with steaks from various countries on offer. Well worth the visit. Not expensive. Location was in back street so the views weren't what you came for.

We visited Gaeta again today, 9/11/2014. We went as our habit to Bar Bazzanti. I have to correct myself, the Cappuccino in the Bar is the best in Italia, not just Gaeta. We have been to most cities all over Italia, including small cities, out of the way (of tourists) places as well.
The cappuccino is served in the largest cup in Italia, no kidding. It is always topped with cacao, which many cities do not serve in such style., not especially in large big touristy cities such as Roma o Firenze. Best of all, it is still € 1 for many years. One may find the same price in out of the way small towns, but, their cup is much much smaller.
Please do not miss this exceptional Bar Bazzanti when ever Gaeta is in your itinerary.

We popped in to Pizzeria del Porto following the TA recommendations and discovered this wonderful local dish "La Tiella", a kind of a pizze-pie with various different fillings and a tasty crust. It was delicious! Regrettably, it was the wrong time of day for trying out the pizza too, from 7pm only... so we had to make-do with La-Tiella. Must go back and try the pizza!
The place itself is tiny, with a short bar-eating area, no sit-down tables available.
Recommended!
