We arrived in Estella at 9.30, got to the main plaza just before 10pm. Some friendly older men just back from music practice recommended we go around the corner to Casanova restaurant.
It's on the 1st floor (not ground floor) of a building. The tired looking man barely acknowledged us. An Asian woman came over, was very helpful in explaining the menu (she was sitting down to eat- was she part of the staff?) and the man reluctantly came to take our order.
We ended up with a delicious meal. Oven baked cod with sliced potatoes in a flavoursome light transparent sauce.

La Sepa has very good reviews on this site and we were looking forward to going there recently. Having had some of our plans to eat disrupted by restaurants being closed, we were glad to see the doors open and all the lights on when we got close, so we went in and climbed the couple of flights of stairs up to the restaurant. When we got there it was all open and we saw one large table on the far side as a waitress approached us. She explained that it was a private party and that the place was closed - she explained this as she physically guided us out of the door and shut it behind us.
Feeling a little odd we started back down the stairs. My girlfriend was just commenting that they shouldn't have all the lights on and doors open with no signs if the place was technically "shut" - and just as she said this, the waitress must have realized the same thing because all the lights went out.....unfortunately we were not even halfway down the stairs at this point and had to do the rest using mobile phones to help light the way.
I read the other reviews with envy because the food sounds good - but my advice to the owners would be that if you are shut, please make that clear. And if you don't do this and someone walks in thinking a lit-up and open restaurant is open, then don't slam the door on them and cut the lights out when they still have a couple of staircases to navigate.......

Huge saloon with medieval style chairs and tables with ceramic tiles. Ample garden for entrees or after lunch coffee, or full lunch / dinner when wheater acompanies. Good kitchen with quality products. Generous dishes served. Cabracho cake and spargus filled with sea food cannot be missed. I liked bacalao ajoarriero too. Chocolate dessert. House wine is good, no need to go deep into the wine list which is not too extense or appealling anyway.

A good and steady menu for fiesta with plenty of choice. We had the fritas and green salad - very generous portions and the chops/entrecôte which were pleasant. Wine and dessert all included and €30 each felt satisfactory.

I ate here in October 2012, when I was in Estella on a Monday evening, where (thankfully) many of the other restaurants in Estella were closed. This is a wonderful quaint restaurant, which features a bar on one side and a linen tabled restaurant on the other. I can say after eating here, that this was one of the best meals I had in Spain, and such a welcome change from other Pilgrim meals! The service was attentive and helpful and the staff were all extra patient as we used our basic Spanish to communicate. We very much appreciated the recommendations from our waiter and in particular he recommended the local mushrooms as an appetizer which were in season for only a few weeks per year. (When I couldn't quite understand what the appetizer was, he scooted to the kitchen and brought out the raw mushrooms to show me) The wine and the lamb main course were delicious, and the only sad part for me was that I was too full for "postres"!! Estella is a lovely town, and Tasca is a gem of a place.

Careful attention to sourcing of cows for the chuleta / chuleta. This is the particular spanish way of serving older cows than the rest of the world - full of taste. Initial attitude thankfully disappeared during the meal and ended with friendly complimentary digestives. Good local wine list - try the Navarra selection - very close to Rioja at a fraction of the price. The restaurant is in the back (bar & simple food at the front). They have a pilgrims menu but if you want to try the real meat you have to pay up. Nothing serious compared to steak restaurants around the world though - certainly good value

Even in small remote towns you can find an Irish outpost. This bar is even located quite far from the centre. Interior is pretty much standard and what you might expect. Has Murphy Red on tap and a few unusual bottled beers in the fridge. Does a few snacks at quite expensive prices.

We are foodie and love pastries. We sampled nearly all the pastry shops in Estella these last three days we spent here and hands down Angela's was the best in town. Great espresso, pastries, chocolate and great friendly owners with welcoming smiles. They were friendly and welcoming to locals, pilgrims and tourists alike. We will be back!

Artisan pizza. Fresh toppings and incredible daily-made dough. Simona takes care of every detail so that our clients and our friends can enjoy our fantastic pizzas!!! Don´t miss it!!
Great pizza, good price and worth a try if you are in the area. The establishment was clean and the service was very friendly. The only con is that the Seating area is small. When we were there though, it was not a problem. We...MoreWe really love that you enjoyed your pizza. As you say, taking away is our main service, although we want to start delivering soon Thank you!

We loved the cuisine, the friendly chefs, and overall vibe of the restaurant...endearing us even more to the city. Everything carefully prepared and most ingredients, if not all, were home made, grown or purchased locally.
We wanted to visit the best restaurant in town so looked here and saw all the great reviews. I agree with every single superb review.
The Chefs are local artisans and clearly are passionate about their craft.
If in Estella, especially if you're a Camino peregrino....stop by here and take a break from the Pilgrim's menu. Their local but global approach to ingredient selection is evident in all the dishes. A rustic but modern Spanish cuisine that is more than a meal ...but also creates a lasting memory.
We had the home made bread and butter, bacalao (w/Apple honey, tomatoes), duck (magret con arroz piña red curry), amazing lentil soup and mouth-watering salad. For dessert ordered the pecan pie and chocolate cake.
We made Reservations before arrival. Definitely will be back again!!!
Suggestions: email in advance for Reservations between the hours posted here on tripadvisor. They are responsive and will email you back. As other guests noted, there are only about 5 tables with a maximum capacity of about 16 seats. It's spacious though and the decor is modern and nicely decorated.
