Dürnstein is a small town on the Danube river in the Krems-Land district, in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It is one of the most-visited tourist destinations in the Wachau region and also a well-known wine growing area. The municipality consists of the Katastralgemeinden Dürnstein, Oberloiben and Unterloiben.

Beautiful Terrace with river view, spacious dining room with a really good salad buffet to accompany typical Viennese dishes. Loved it!

The Loibnerhof is the longstanding classic pillar of restaurants in the Wachau. For decades, it has enjoyed cult status for its outstanding regional cuisine.
Our local guide brought us to this vineyard in our Danube tour. It was a place that he threw a party in.
The ambience is just lovely, charming and peaceful. Definitely the highlight of our tour. The wine was as expected, really good. But what surprised us was that the dessert was one of the best that we have tried. We have had many desserts in our holiday in Austria, and we find ourselves thinking of the dessert we had here.

What jumps out at klosterkeller is the Big-screen telly with sky sports! Means I only miss matches I deliberately want to miss. The Managers, Jorg and Uwe are efficient and friendly. Jorg speaks very fluent English and seems very well-traveled so foreigners will not feel unwelcome and can discuss any topic with him.
The garden area is cozy and just has a very comfortable feel about it. Here they have a great collection of wines, beers and bubbly. Using the toilet takes you through a very old basement that constantly makes me feel like I am in an old movie.
The town itself boasts of one of the oldest churches in Europe, which is clearly seen from Klosterkeller and also the cell where King Richard 1 (The Lionheart) was locked up after being kidnapped on his way back from fighting in the crusades in Jerusalem.
I highly recommend this place.

Mixed feelings about this place.. The surroundings are superb and the waiters untypically friendly for austrians but the desserts we came here to enjoy (specifically, due to the apricots) were tasteless.. Too bad.. At least the garden was lovely.

Very romantic seafood restaurant on the side of Danube river. Please select to sit outside, order very nice bottle of Gruner Veltliner and watch the Danube river cruises to go by.Everything we had was excellent and very fresh. Would not hesitate to return as many times as possible.

Pleasant restaurant serving Austrian cuisine. The big advantage, it works when everything is closed. Delicious dishes. Good service. A place where you can relax during a walk through the valley.

Landhaus Bacher has been one of the first culinary addresses in the Wachau for many years. It is one of Austria’s very best restaurants.
I have heard a lot about this place and I am glad to have finally visited. Service was impeccable and the space gorgeous. My only small gripe is that the WC is across the courtyard. If you are female and it rains... you are stuck in mud, I presume. Enough of that...
The food was excellent and absolutely delicious. Perfectly plated and paced, it was definitely worth the visit. I had the spring veggie menu and, because it was easter, the dinner ended with an easter bunny filled with chocolate covered nuts. Yum! I also ordered the souffle/rhubarb Schmarrn for which I had high expectations. I think it needed a bit more sugar and far less hazelnuts. The latter overpowered the subtle egg flavor if the souffle.

Jamek has been an institution in the Wachau for decades now. Both for the lusciously comfortable atmosphere and the quality of everything promised...and delivered.
The location is very convenient if you are traveling along the Danube and visiting Melk or any little town such as Dürnstein. The wines both sparkling or plain white are produced in the property and are quite enjoyable. We had lunch and the service was very good. Menu in English!!!
Food was also very good, and our table outside (24ºC) was a good choice.

This Gasthaus should be at the top of the list of stop-off spots along the Danube Cycle Path. While Duernstein and Krems have their share of excellent restaurants, this location is between the two, and having stopped on two occasions on a bike tour of the Donauradweg, for the sheer pleasure of eating home-cooked food, the Wachauer Stuben is definitely our top pick. From the mouth-watering Wiener Schnitzel, to the exquisite Marillen-Knoedel and Palatschinken, you just cannot go wrong. Our visits were four years apart, and the quality has remained consistent. The house wines are perfectly acceptable, and we found the pricing quite reasonable. What more can one say. You should go!!! (And the owner will sit with you while pencil-handwriting the bill)

Highly recommended place to go. Great food, all five of us have been highly satisfied with our meals. Trout, cod as well as lamb or pork. Soups: perfect! Desserts: great. Price: a little higher but worth it. Take a walk to the danube afterwards - very nice landscape :-)
