This typical Russian Orthodox Church in 12th century with a tall belfry which locates on high Terrace is "must see" tourist spot in Vladimir. Apart from the external facade, the gold domes and the surrounding environment, the internal part of the Cathedral should not be skipped despite of the payment of entrance fee.

The museum-reserve includes architectural monuments of Old Russian period (12th - early 18th century) located in three towns - Vladimir, Suzdal and Gus-Khrustalny.
Suzdal has to be the hight spot of any trip round Russia's Golden Ring
The 13th century Cathedral and the kremlin(castle) buildings have been well restored in such a way as to retain the timeless atmosphere of this amazing country.
We visited on a crisp autumn day when the leaves were in fall and wandered over to the nearby building museum - a collection of rebuilt rural houses and farm buildings.

So cool to check this historic place. The Cathedral is one-domed and four-pillared. Originally it was surrounded by galleries with towers that connected it to the prince's palace. They were demolished during the restoration in the 19th century. The church is famous for its white-stone carvings - its walls are decorated with ca. 600 reliefs, depicting saints, mythical and real animals. Most of the reliefs are preserved in their original form, some have been replaced during the restoration of the 19th century. Out of the internal decoration a few fragments of frescoes of the 12th century have survived, particularly fragments of the Last Judgement composition.
Currently, the Cathedral is a part of the Vladimir-Suzdal open-air museum.

The large statue is located in the center of a park near to the two Cathedrals and the observation platform to memorize Prince Vladimir. You can take photos on all nice views over the surrounding valley and also stroll around the peaceful park if you have time to do so.

This successful combination of the museum and viewing platform. From above excellent views as city of Vladimir, and the nature surrounding it open.
On four floors of the museum there are a lot of interesting exhibits which give an idea of life of citizens in the 19th century.
Poimo of it a tower is very attractive as an architectural construction

It is 12th century remain of the great wall of Vladimir. It was once the main entrance as a fancy gate to the city.No glamor is presered. The walls are gone and a church golden dome was addeded. It serves as a museum history of Vladimir. Just nearby on the hill stands the water tower built a century ago and it exhibits the old Vladimir as well. Then combine these sites and the high platforn of this hill (or even the higher platform of the tower) for an observation point.

You don't seem to be able to go inside (correct me if I'm wrong), but from what I saw on the outside, this church is very much different from all other Russian orthodox churches I've seen. The intricate details and patterns and figures covering all of the topmost part of the walls will hold you standing there and staring at them for minutes. And they aren't your usual angels and other religious symbols (beautiful, but we kind of expect them to be there). This one is covered in trees and birds and creatures and patterns almost as if this wasn't a typical Christian place of worship but a building reflecting almost unconscious beliefs that go back thousands of years. At least that's the kind of impression it had on me. Try for yourselves if you appreciate all things art & religion, you won't regret it.

Museum jf optical illusions and entertaining sciences
The museum is a lot of fun. We were 8 friends and we enjoyed taking pictures of the different optical illusion images and devices. The place is neat and the staff was very helpful and friendly in explaining us since we could not understand Russian, which was the language everything was explained in . Anastasia, Dimitri and Yaroslav were great staff. It was real fun.
