Started well with a friendly waiter but our glasses of water never came and the drinks (bottled) took too long to come. When the food arrived a BLAT Bacon+ Lettuce+ Avocado +Tomato Bruschetta and a Pizza, the BLAT turned up being a BLATminus the A as there was no A for avocado though it was for the A for Avocado that I'd ordered it and we were not advised that there had been a change of plan OR offered an alternative
The pizza was ok but somewhat overdone.
Bit dreary inside but the cheerful waiter saved the day.
Ok kind of sums this place up.

wanted to grab something hot to take back to the motel, after a day of driving. Soooo much food, could have got half and still been satisfied. gigantic spring rolls, half a chicken with the crispy chicken, beautiful beef with veg and cashew nuts. The adjacent restaurant looked lovely, but we were too tired to tidy ourselves up and be presentable.

Good old fashioned fish & chips, using fresh seafood, local oysters, mussels & flounder.
Just the place to go for a good meal at a good price. Nice and relaxed and good service. Complimentary tea and coffee is a nice surprise.

Shiraz Indian Restaurant was the first truly successful Indian restaurant established in Whangarei and Dargaville.
I haven't eaten Indian food in enough other restaurants to be able to compare Shiraz food. However I eat there several times a year and always enjoy the food - sometimes pizza, other times chili chicken or biriyani. Service is efficient and courteous, and usually quite quick.

Great food, great outdoor eating area, good value. Plenty of parking out front and close to the warehouse and countdown.

My meat-eating friends tell me that this is the one of the two Thai restaurants worth eating at in Dargaville. But as a vegetarian, I've had both Takeout and eat-in at this restaurant, and found the meals really, really average. Their menu notes that any meal can be prepared for vegetarians or vegans, but there's nothing actually listed. What this means is that most of the time, if you order something they just take the meat out. If you're lucky, they might put some tofu in. And even if you order it spicy, it's not even mildly so. I'm giving it three points because it's the best Thai food available in the area, but my rating would be lower if it existed in a major metropolitan centre where there's so much choice. Meat eaters are free to disagree with my review, and probably will.

Dropped into Dargaville to catch a Sandwich and drink. Used to finding nice cafes in NZ. Dargaville was not a happy experience. No nice cafes in Main Street, in fact bit of a back water - even river was dirty and brown. Cafe had good choice of food, all served on plastic tables. Logo was fine!

CLOSED FOR RESTORATION & REMODELING. Country Tavern & Hotel provides Restaurant and Hotel facilities in this Kiwi iconic atmosphere. Relax with a drink and a sit by the fire.
After a week travelling around Northland we had our last nights accommodation booked at Baylys Beach. Arriving mid afternoon and not having eaten lunch we went into Dargaville to find something to eat. We came across the usual Indian, Thai, Pizza, Fish and Chips places but wanted something different. A quick look on TA we discovered Aratapu Tavern and decided to give it a go and we were so glad we did. We were warmly welcomed when we walked in the door and pleasantly surprised that even though it was nearly 4pm we could order anything off the menu. We had read the ribs were good so looked no further on the menu but ordered a full rack to share with a side of kumara garlic bread. And when it all came out my husband went into food heaven and I didn't hear a word from him for the next 20 minutes. Hubbie cooks a lot of his own ribs and meats and is usually quite fussy so for him to say these were some of the best he's eaten is something. If you're in the area and want want some honest pub food make sure you make the trip out there.

This is a great little find. It beats any Thai we have had in Katiaia, Kerikeri, Paihia, Whangarei so when ever in Dargaville we must stop and eat here. The food is fresh and includes lots of vegetables which we love. The freshness, value for money and authentic flavours make it hard to beat. Service with a smile too :)

We were giving a gift voucher to use at the restaurant so used it for a special birthday.Scallops entree, lamb shanks and pork belly for our mains and we just managed to squeeze in some yummy desserts. Beautiful meals and we will certainly be back, but cant wait for another special birthday will have to be sooner than that. Thanks to the team in the restaurant, great menu and tasty meals.
