Crewe /kruː/ is a railway town and civil parish within the borough of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. The area has a population of 84,863. Crewe is perhaps best known as a large railway junction and home to Crewe Works, for many years a major railway engineering facility for manufacturing and overhauling locomotives, but now much reduced in size. From 1946 until 2002 it was also the home of Rolls-Royce motor car production. The Pyms Lane factory on the west of the town now produces Bentley motor cars exclusively. Crewe is 158 miles north of London and 35 miles south of Manchester.

We visited as a couple on a Wednesday evening to find plenty of walk-in customers dining midweek. We have eaten before here on other occasions and never had a bad meal and this visit certainly didn't disappoint either. My partner opted for a Chicken Handi which she loved and said would have again and I opted for a South Indian Garlic Mirchi dish, which the waiter told me it was the hottest item on the menu. It sure was and possibly the hottest curry I have ever had, loaded with plenty of fresh green and red chillis and copious amounts of garlic. Perfect dish if you like hot, spicy curry and it certainly hit the spot.
Service didn't disappoint, very prompt with drinks and food. Staff very polite, smartly dressed so what more could you want. Will revisit again even though we are from out of the Crewe area.

Friendly little cafe, decorated with 60s 70s memorabilia, staff very helpful and obliging, good choice of breakfasts, meals and snacks all cooked to your choice, reasonably priced, well worth a visit.

Staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. However suggest that food needs attention to detail, my ciabatta didn't have a fresh taste (my friends pizza base was slightly under cooked)...

We often have an indian meal on a Saturday but hadn't been here for a while as we thought the food was pretty average last time.
Sadly, nothing has changed. The bottle of white wine was not chilled. The starters (shami kebabs) were ok, possibly 3 out of 5. My main meal was ok. The chips were quartered potatoes and gross. What happened to your locely chips????? The keema naan was awful. Whete was the filling? All the food was 'average' at best.
The best thing was the new toilet/washrooms. They were lovely except the lack of a mirror in the ladies.
You need to improve your game.

Brewing is at the heart of the business and our JW Lees cask ales are always very popular with regulars and visitors alike. Our back bar is filled with premium spirits and quality world wines for all tastes. We serve pub food favourites throughout the day from steak & ale pie, fish & chips, to daily home-made specials. If you fancy something simpler, we have a variety of light bites and sandwiches. Whether you’re eating alone or hosting a party and looking for somewhere to celebrate you can always be sure of a warm welcome. The Duke of Gloucester is named after one of the most unique steam engines in the UK. To this day, The Duke is a much-loved locomotive and is considered a very special piece of steam railway heritage.
met friends for lunch as I had received a voucher for 50% off all food, tasty food and excellent value especially with the voucher. Our waitress was very pleasant (purple hair).

Went in here as always seem to drive past, and certainly better than expected. Huge pub with a separate play/adventure area for kids, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Ordering is done via the bar and all was very quick and easy. The carvery had a selection of pork, Turkey, gammon and beef, with a great range of potato and veg options (anywhere serving sprouts in March gets my vote!). Portions are very good, and the whole meal was very tasty.
Where the Rookery really stands out though is in the value - 2 roast carverys and 2 drinks came to less than £23, which in todays standards is very good, especially when you consider the food was of a good quality too.
So overall recommended especially if you are looking out for a traditional carvery.

Change of landlord brings a little fresh air to this incredible historic pub, terrific booze, great food and a proper pub atmosphere. The young lady running it is a treasure. Despite the distance it’s my “local “ from now on! Taxi please.

Walked in sat down, Menu at the tables but have to order at the desk, Waited for 10 minutes and had to ask where the order is taken!Hi Emma, I'm sorry that you felt upset by this, at the top of the menu we have it written in block capitals that "all food must be ordered at the counter", apologies if this wasn't clear enough.

On 9th January Jackie & Kevin finally left The White Lion. The reins were handed over to Jackie Stubbs, who has worked at The White Lion since 2005, so knows the place and the regulars inside out. We of course wish her every success. Beautiful country pub and restaurant in an old Victorian coaching inn on what was the main route to London, with large beer garden with country views across the cow field and play area for the summer or log fires when it gets cold. Every week day from 12noon to 2pm AND 6pm to 9pm we serve GREAT food (from 3 course meal to bar snack),quality cask ales, lagers, wines, specialist premium gins, vodkas and malt whiskies, a wide range of other spirits, soft drinks and coffees. Saturday's food is from 12noon to 9pm and 12noon to 7pm every Sunday. SKY & BT SPORTS for ALL THE BIG MATCHES. Every Wednesday there is hugely popular 2-4-1 STEAK NIGHT - booking recommended to avoid disappointment. Dogs and children welcome, but please keep children on a lead !
Visited Step Mum Audrey, 4 years since our last visit, but the White Lion was still her place of choice. Had a fabulous lunch with great service. Such good value and really a cut above the rest. The White Lion should be on any visitor's agenda, great value, company and food.
