We had been here before on a drive to/from Spain and were delighted to see that this is still Number 1 in St. Jean de Luz. The reason for this is simple. If you like a creative chef providing really tasty and beautiful food then I recommend it.
The tasting menu was good value for the series of dishes provided.
The restaurant is in an old, stone building with bags of atmosphere and the staff are friendly and happy to explain the menu options in English.
Fabulous gastronomic experience!

Traditional Basque cuisine does not need much improvement, but at Chez Mattin they have somehow managed it. They make good use of the amazing local ingredients, so plentiful in this wonderful region, and incorporate them into revisited Basque mainstays. All our dishes were utterly delicious and I just loved the 'chipiron a la plancha' served over the most wonderfully flavoursome and perfectly cooked piece of pork. It is no wonder that Chez Mattin is a local favourite and it totally retains the charm of family run, rustic restaurant (evident in the typical decor) while serving a refined food offering. Full marks all around.

We dined here during a recent visit and it was the culinary highlight of our week in lovely Saint Jean de Luz. My wife had the ceviche starter which was superb and then the pigeon and a chocolate mousse to die for. I had the foie gras de canard, merlu (hake) and then a perfect Grand Marnier Souffle. We also dined at le Kaiku as we did last year which is very good and deserves its Michelin star. Why Zoko Moko does not also have one is beyond belief.

Guillaume Roget et toute son équipe vous accueillent face à la baie de Saint Jean de Luz pour vous proposer une cuisine fraîche du marché. Carte des vins composée de plus de 200 références.
Everything from my poached cod starter, to the wonderful desert and including my main dish of merlu with lemon risotto cooked to perfection was very satisfactory.
The atmosphere is elegant without being stuffy.
Don't forget to book. I saw many people trying in vain to get a table.

We were staying at a campsite just outside St Jean de Luz and were visiting the town for the afternoon/evening. We found this small creperie by chance it was one of the few restaurants open out of season. Although the restaurant is only small the ambience is one of friendliness and meals are delivered in a very timely fashion by the only server. We had both savoury and sweet crepes all of which was very delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would look out for this restaurant again.

Received a recommendation at our hotel to try this restaurant and were not disappointed. Attentive but not obtrusive service. Fantastic fish of the day, beautifully done with some small shellfish and a wonderful light sauce. Basque cider as an alternative to wine was a very welcome change.

Pil Pil Enea is located in a quiet street in the centre of St-Jean-de-Luz, largely unfrequented by tourists and fashionistas. A low-key and informal neighbourhood restaurant serving mainly fish and basque dishes, it is satisfying and good value with friendly but unassuming service.

Judging from the chef's more than considerable talent, this place should have a michellin star... Just sitting down and looking at the flatware, and serving dishes you know this lunch ( in our case) or dinner experience is going to be good .. But surprise! It's better!. My husband and I took the menu of two different choices of three couses so that we could try as many dishes as possible. From beginning till end, there were delightful extras....( three devine amuse buches to start , and three melt in your mouth whatever theyre called after dessert ) , interesting home made rolls ( paella yellow, raisin , plain, and poppy seed) were continuously and generously served by attentive staff. The main courses were plated with seriously thought out accompaniments that were not ordinarily put together but worked very well. Highest recommendation, wish it hadn't been our last day....would definitely go back...YUM

12 family members ate together here. We called ahead due to our large party. They were very accommodating and friendly. Good location near town center and beach. Had English menus. However, food was average. Fish soup was good but we have had better in our travels. Sea bass was bland. Steak was tough. Mussels were delicious.

Off season ?? Restaurant was full - good sign. Great atmosphere. Service was crisp without being overbearing. Informative waitress. In particular, the marinated scallops were fabulous and the main course fish dishes were cooked to perfection. Excellent evening.
