Chichicastenango, also known as Santo Tomás Chichicastenango, is a town in the El Quiché department of Guatemala, known for its traditional K'iche' Maya culture. The Spanish conquistadors gave the town its name from the Nahuatl name used by their soldiers from Tlaxcala: Tzitzicaztenanco, or City of Nettles. Its original name was Chaviar.

La Villa de Don Tomas was recommended to us by the owners of the hotel we were staying at. It is a large rather fancy upstrairs restauraunt right downtown. It serves typical Guatemalan as well as international fare. When we arrived, the place was nearly empty. Since we were simply having lunch, we ordered hamburgers...which were OK...But they served a cheeseburger to one of us instead of the hamburger that had been ordered. Also, when the bill came, we noticed that they charged 5 quetzals more for the beers than what was listed on the menu. We simply reduced the tip by that amount...I wouldn't go there again...

We went here for dinner later in the evening when many other restaurants were closed.
We had the the San Juan Special plate which featured a little bit of everything off the menu, but it was 75Q, which seemed a little over priced for how much meat you actually got.
We also had the veggie salad 40Q, which was very lovely, and a good price for the amount of veggies on the plate.
Paired with a glass of red wine for 30Q, nothing spectacular but not having wine in a while it hit the spot.
Overall it was 4.5, personally I would get a tortillas or specific meat plate next time. Great service as well.

Chichicastenango is not a place to go for fine dining.just to get a good satisfying meal is enough. There are other reasons why we're here. This restaurant is clean and attractively decorated. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. David had the Tinamit Special for lunch consisting of four meats, fried potatoes, salad, soup and tortillas, all for 75 quetzales. I had a mixed vegetable salad for 45 quetzales and a picador of papaya and pineapple. We left satisfied.

The food was great. The service was awesome as well. Best meal we had in ChiChi. Clean, good place to eat during a day at the market.

The cafe is located in the main building of Chichicastenango building. The decoration is great, especially because it is grounded on stuff from other time, such as typing machines which the kids loved. The service is nothing more than regular, but despite the excelent ambiance, the food - the creps - were terribly made. Regardless the lack of salt, the chicken, ham and cheese were tasteless and the meal wasn't definitely near to be appropriate The Nutella crep wasn't good at all and Nutella, which is good for itself, was the only good part.

I was very happy to discover a new restaurant in Chichi that is quite different from the others. It is a little off the beaten path, but not hard to find. Just walk down the street that goes under the arch on the north side...MoreWe´re happy to be found by you and thank you very much for your comment; we’ll be delighted to serve you again.

My large group of 12 had breakfast almost every morning at this lovely upstairs restaurant. We pre-ordered our breakfasts because we were a large group.
Had something different each day - and they were all wonderful.
(scrambled eggs, fruit plate, waffles, pancakes......)
They have free WI-FI and on the day they forgot to bring the modem in, someone went home and got the device and brought it is......so we had our WI-FI.
The best service and food.
