We saw the reviews on TripAdvisor and thought we must try it. Wow....... from the minute we arrived at this quaint place to the time we left was a great experience. A very simple place, but clean and with amazing food and owners. Iain &...MoreDear Hanh and Steve, thank you so much for your complimentary review. Tel: 483 0964The restaurant is beachside and open every day except Saturday. We do homemade pizza and pelau on Sundays and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday to Friday. We have a live African drums and limbo every Wednesday with dinner. Dinner costs between $100 - $115 for fish, chicken, shrimp, beef, goat, prawns or squid). Lobster is priced according to size.We also have 4 apartments behind and set above the restaurant. They have a fully fitted kitchen, large deck, kingsize bed with canopy, bathroom, sofa bed , table and chairs.Rates are $60US per night per room.
Went on a Wednesday night for drumming (had a reservation). It was packed, so diners shared tables with other diners, which ended up being a great opportunity to meet new people. Food was very good - huge plate of vegetables (slightly overcooked) and wide choice of main courses with interesting sauces. Drinks are no longer included in the fixed price menu for drumming nights. Drumming did not start on time, possibly because the restaurant had extra large crowds that night. By 9:30 pm when there was no sign of any drums or drummers, we gave up and left.

This is an authentic Italian pizza place. The setting combines the rustiness of Tobago together with the friendliness of its people . The service is great and personal. There are many pizza combos as well as antipasti and pasta dishes. Great for take out also.

Everybody comes here to give Cheno's breakfasts excellent write-ups, which are well deserved.
Our Cheno's highlight was the Friday(?) night bbq however, which we cannot recommend enough. Generous portions of delicious food for a very reasonable price, with cold beers and an excellent steel drummer providing entertainment. Wholeheartedly recommended.

We spent a delightful evening at this restaurant right on the beach in Castara. We were able to park at the beach facilities area just a few steps away and watch the sunset before sitting down to dinner. We shared a shrimp ceviche appetizer which...MoreThank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We appreciate you.Cheers!

Cascreole Rest is overlooking the big Bay and has good local food as well as a superb view.
Debbie is a great waitress and takes care of the customers.
They have bonfire on the beach in Thursday nights and always packed. Need a reservation to get on Thursdays but well worth the effort.
Goat Curry as well as BBQ chicken are both quite good.

Their love of very loud music means that the main bar is usually empty and everyone is on the roadside or in the BBQ area at the back! Excellent rum punch and on their BBQ nights, this is a must. Good choice and very very cheap. The downside is that food comes served in polystyrene boxes but, given lack of Seating, probably unavoidable

Open daily from 11am-10pm. For Reservations call 687-7711. Castara Retreats Scenic Restaurant with spectacular views of the beach and ocean, on our terraced pavilion deck. We offer a range of home-made foods from fresh fish and quality steak to hand-made ravioli and interesting vegetarian options. We offer a choice of inventive starters including fishcakes, salads and chilled soups, and popular desserts such as chocolate mousse and passionfruit cheesecake. We have a range of cocktails, cold beers, fine wines, Italian coffees, and home-made juices. Our restaurant is rapidly gaining a reputation for good food and a warm welcome where guests can take a break, eat and drink, take in the spectacular views and sunsets and observe the wonderful hummingbirds as they display on our feeders.
We made the climb up to Castara Retreats on two occasions - once for sundowners and once for dinner. Both visits were special treats, with a gorgeous view, hummingbirds, fireflies in the tree tops and well made cocktails. Our meal was delicious, particularly some coconut prawns and a lamb dish. The chocolate mousse was dark and rich and went well with a glass of special Tobago rum. There is also a choice of good wine, which is not usual in Castara.
It was a refreshing change to have a different range of drinks and food than that on offer down in the village, as much as we always enjoy those restaurants too.
The atmosphere is convivial, especially at sunset. The level of customer service is mainly very good.
I would only say one thing. The welcome from staff was warm and enthusiastic - however, on both evenings, when we told them that we weren’t staying at the resort, for a split second a cold draft swept through and tumbleweed rolled by. The friendly conversation was then largely directed at residents. We also noticed that they received their food first, even thought we’d ordered before them.
This is all very lovely for the guests and must make them feel valued and special. But even though we may not have opted to stay at Castara Retreats this time, we had still chosen to spend our hard earned money at their restaurant and bar. And last time I looked it was a good as anyone else’s.
However I very much hope that they do remain open to the likes of us - I mean we know how to use a knife and fork and everything - as it is a truly gorgeous experience and provided us with a memorable couple of evenings, enhancing our wonderful time in Castara - a special place to which we will return.

What wonderful people Bingi and Hazel are - they really made our stay at a local self catering cottage (Blue Mango) so great. They have an astonishing array of basic groceries and they are, in a country where nobody buys fresh fruit or veggies because they have them growing at home, the only place in Castara to get pineapples, avocados, tomatoes - fresh produce of any sort! Hazel also bakes if you order the day before, banana bread or coconut bread ("Whatever is left over").

Two couples ate here one evening in a quiet atmosphere with no other diners present. Service was very quick and pleasant. We had lobster, coconut garlic mahimahi and stewed beef. We were all quite happy with our meals. They do not serve alcohol, but allow you to bring in your own. As it was raining when we finished our meals, they let us wait out the rain for a good hour before they closed up. Lamentably, a puncheon luncheon sidetracked our plans to return for another dinner two days later. Will definitely be back next year. Reasonably priced.
