Cartmel is a village in Cumbria, England, 2.2 miles (3.5 km) north-west of Grange-over-Sands and close to the River Eea. The village was once known as Kirkby in Cartmel, as it was the location of the church for the large parish of Cartmel. It is the location of the 12th-century Cartmel Priory. Historically in Lancashire, boundary changes brought it into the newly-created county of Cumbria in 1974.

Dinner served daily between 1900 - 2000, menu is a daily changing to AA red Rosette . Traditional Sunday Lunch served at 1300. Aynsome Manor was built in 1730, as a family home for the Remmington Family. The hotel also has 12 bedrooms.
It's been a couple of years since we last visited Aynsome for dinner. The service was faultless, the food tasty and cooked to perfection.
Chris and the team can't do enough to help but also not overbearing.
Menu is filled with some great locally sourced dishes. Struggled to choose just one dish for each course as they all sounded so good.
Great value for money and cracking customer service.

We are a small restaurant using all local produce that is sourced by our chef. We offer a full lunch, dinner and Sunday lunch menu. Our restaurant has wonderful views across the Leven Estuary. You can also take advantage of our patio area and extensive Gardens. Children are welcome and we can supply a high chair. We also cater for all allergies and intolerance's.
Had an overnight here on a whistle stop visit to the Lakes with our two dogs. Very friendly and welcoming with good food. Even the fogs got a goody bag. Hosts are welcoming, I believe they have done much to improve this hotel, which is only a mile or so from Cartmel, and there is still a bit to do, but with their attitude, no doubt it will go from strength to strength..

The Hazelmere in Grange over Sands has been owned by The Stubley family for 38 years. Dorothy, the proprietor has set the standards very high and only serves the best quality, locally sourced foods where possible. We have a beautiful Tea House where our meals are served and in the summer months we have the option of eating out on our front of house Terrace. We also have a deli bakery on site where you can select delicious take away lunches for you to enjoy in the ornamental Gardens across the road or you can eat in our take away courtyard. In the evenings from March up until November the Hazelmere turns into a very high class restaurant, booking is recommended as we do get very busy, exceptional meals produced by our very talented and experienced chefs. Everything is made in house and our bakers make all the produce through the night so its as fresh as can possibly be when it goes on our counter. We continue to strive to bring to our customers the best products around and take great satisfaction from this. Our excellent teams of waiting on staff and shop and back of house staff ensure the smooth running of such a large business. We look forward to welcoming you to the Hazelmere !
Their bread, cakes and pastries are well worth stopping for. When passing through Grange this is our first port of call to stock up with some of their lovely bread and savouries. The cafe is also well worth a visit, especially the potted shrimps.

Don’t expect anything and go with the flow. I knew it was going to be slightly left field when we sat down and I noticed the table decoration. As ever in the best establishments the staff are perfect - understated, knowledgable and enjoy their job with a sharp wit which they will share quietly if you are the sort of customer who appreciates that. Whilst the presentation is artistic it was less obscure that I expected - the fish course was a piece of fish and the obligatory leaf or something. At times it was a slightly bewildering trip through the menu trusting the waiters. I looked around when courses were served and people had the same look of cautious optimism. Others ordered the cheeseboard and I was waiting for the staff to announce the name of the goat from Mrs Wilkins farm up the road whose milk made the cheese..... I am being ridiculous but it is very thorough. I booked this restaurant as I have lived up here for years and never got around to it and someone did a review that said they were still talking about their meal three weeks later. I am so pleased that we went. The Maitre D was a dream and took us into the kitchens which was very interesting. Our booking was first at 1200 noon so that might be why. It might have been slightly wasted on us as I doubt I will ever have much use for freeze dried rice pudding balls. If you are not from a rural area please remember this is Cumbria. Staff in Claridges do not have to wander round with their arm in the air trying to get a signal to process card payments. All part of the experience. I managed to bump our bill up considerably with drinks but I was enjoying myself - try the liquor coffee which they make next to the table. The decor is quite casual and this is not a haughty establishment. We were made to feel very welcome.

Simon Rogan's relaxed neighbourhood restaurant in the magical village of Cartmel. Sister restaurant to the legendary L'Enclume, Rogan & Co offers a more casual dining experience while retaining the unparalleled precision and creativity of Simon's distinctive culinary style.
Catching up with friends recently we decided to give Rogan and Co a try. The service and attention to detail is excellent. The restaurant itself is very well presented and from a front of house perspective no complaints at all.
The food while very tasty was in very small portions for the price. All the sides you again must pay extra for so what seems reasonable soon adds up in my opinion.
Overall a nice enough experience but underwhelming I’m afraid and overpriced. Many other places to try so wouldn’t rush back.

I used to eat Cartmel Village Shop’s sticky toffee pudding when I was a child, buying it from my local Waitrose. It was my favourite pudding.
20 years later and I randomly find out, whilst staying in the Lake District, that the actual shop is only a few miles away! Naturally, we popped there to try it out and it did not disappoint. It really is an incredible pudding!

We have gone to great lengths to try and use only local produce and suppliers, thus ensuring our quality is always of a very high standard for our guests to enjoy. At The Cavendish Arms you are always guaranteed a warm welcome.
Quite a number of eating spots in Cartmel, but the Cavendish is possibly the best.Starter soup was fresh and hot.Main Falafel burger was tasty and filling. My wife din't rate the sticky toffee pudding,so maybe one to watch.Service was great,as was the ambience.Suggest booking on Open Table as this venue very popular. If you like Gin,there's plenty to choose from.

Excellent chippy
For the best part of the past decade our family have frequented Fish-over-Chips in Grange-over-Sands whenever we have been visiting that most pleasant corner of the country. Nestled at the foot of the South Lakes and near such pretty places as Cartmel and Holker Hall, Grange-over-Sands is a gentle, quiet and quaint little coastal town with much by way of charm. There are rows of old fashioned shops, a park with a bandstand and beautiful scenic views across the sands and along the coastline. It's the kind of place where you can still enjoy a brass band and an afternoon tea, if that's what takes your fancy!
One of the reasons why the town has had a magnetic draw for us is just this - it's gentleness offers a welcoming place to retreat away from the harsh outside world, if only for a short while! Another of the reasons for return visits is to sample the splendours of Fish-over-Chips, a traditional fish and chip shop which caters for take-away customers and for those who prefer to dine in at their cafe. As occasional visitors, we always make an occasion of it by eating in at the cafe, where we have always been welcomed and well looked after, ever since we visited for the first time when our daughter who is now 10, was in her pram and they rearranged the furniture in the cafe to let us put her pram next to our table!
In keeping with the atmosphere of the town, the cafe has a pleasant feel of a step back in time with old fashioned values and service much in evidence. How often are the walls of a cafe adorned with posters of the latest cinematic releases which are being shown at the Bowness Royalty or the Ulverston Roxy. The staff are always very pleasant and the food has always been tasty, of a good standard and plentiful, so much so that at our most recent visit during Oct half term, I was glad I had ordered the regular fish and chips rather than the large version. For those who prefer slight variations, other dishes are on offer with freshly cooked pizzas being the latest addition to a menu which offers good value for money.
The charm of Fish-over-Chips has won a place in the affections of our family, in the same way as the town it is located in has also done so for us so well over the years. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but we certainly look forward to the establishment and the town continuing to offer us a warm welcome and that our first decade of association may be extended for many more years to come!

Cosy, friendly coffee shop in the centre of Cartmel. Serving home made cakes and scones, baked daily on the premises.

We have a limited menu of freshly made sandwiches, a homemade soup of the day, hot 'brunch' menu. Eg smoked salon and scrambled eggs, etc.

We sell take away cakes, sandwiches and our house blend teas and coffees.

We have a selection of paintings by local artists and gifts made by local cottage industries.
After wandering around this lovely village we called in for a coffee and were Immediately welcomed by the two lady’s behind the counter. There were a few customers including some of the villagers. There was a nice Christmas atmosphere in the room.
The Coffee was delicious, we would not hesitate to return, but next time to have some of the cakes that were on display!

An 18th Century Inn full of character, mixing contemporary furnishings with traditional decor, and real log fires.Great outside Seating area overlooking the main Square in the village, fantastic for watching the world go by.
