We went to Tintos y Blancos at the Terra mall with about 6 other couples – a large group of friends – because we had heard wonderful things about this restaurant and some of our group had good experiences there previously. To be honest we were a little disappointed but perhaps that was because we had high expectations. The food was good but not great, and fairly expensive (as was the wine but they had a good selection). The service was also OK, but just. It seemed that they brought the food out randomly such that some members of our group were finished their plate while others were still waiting to be served. The best part was that were seated on the upper level with a great view of a duo below playing authentic Costa Rica and Central American music and doing it very well. I will probably go back at some point to give it another chance, and maybe with lower expectations and a smaller group they will do better.

This excellent restaurant has shown me that Italian restaurants can really push boundaries when they have access to different ingredients. For example the carpaccio di pulpo uses octopus in a way that you just wouldn't find in Europe. The giant green lipped mussels are incredible and of course fresh not frozen. The portobello mushroom with mozzarella was delicious. The mains were also excellent. I had the seafood tagliatelle. Again, perfection. Luckily the pudds kept up with the standard of the rest with an excellent cheesecake and probably the best Panacotta and tropical fruit I ever had

There are lots of Chinese restaurants all around Costa Rica but this one is definitely worth seeking out if you are tired of gallo pinto, mystery meats, rice and fried plantains. This place has an atmosphere suitable for a business luncheon, quiet and tasteful, with a varied and tasty menu. Chef Javier Wong Cheng uses authentic Chinese ingredients that he buys at the Chinese market in San Jose, keeping to the traditions of his culture, rather than creating a boring hybrid as so often happens with ethnic restaurants far from their native soil. The Chinese came to Costa Rica to build the east-west railroad, which is why you'll find them scattered across this nation.

We were on a day tour with other tourists (about 16 people), and our tour operator had taken us for lunch at this establishment. It is indeed situated with a beautiful scenic breathtaking views.
It was however unfortunate that our dining experience didn’t match whatsoever with the views. We understand that we’re a big group to feed, but we ALL had to eat Casados and the chosen meat/fish option were taken a couple of hours prior to our arrival. The beef was the most tasteless we’ve had in Costa Rica, and so far the hardest/rubbery. The side dishes, dessert and juice were ok, but nothing to compliment on — we were all simply very hungry... Waiters were doing their job, but one felt unwelcomed, as if we were bothering them, despite our multiple gratitude for serving us.
We had a great day tour, and dining in this restaurant was the only negative bit. Perhaps it’s not a place for feeding tour groups?

We revisited the restaurant, this time with the family, and we confirmed that their service, the food quality and freshness are always present. The host and his staff are always there to help and bring the best out of your visit. Enjoy the magnificent natural environment that the surroundings of the restaurant offer.

We visited this restaurant after visiting Irazu Volcano. The restaurant was simple, but the local Costa Ricann food was excellent. We were part of a tour group, and all of our members raved about the food. The location lacks ambiance (a modified strip mall), but with food this good "who cares."

My wife and I have lived on the East side of San Jose for 10 years with our three boys. When we are ready for a quiet night out, or a pretty place to take visitors, we head up the hill to Maderos. The view is great, and the food is always good.
We went last Friday for my wife's birthday. We shared an ayote (squash) soup. She had the shrimp risote, I had the fish. Another great night.

Stopped here for breakfast en route to a river rafting trip. We were told about the views, however unfortunately the morning fog didn't cooperate. The typical Costa Rican breakfast of Gallo Pinto, Turrialba cheese, tortillas, and fruit was on offer and the staff did a good job of catering for our group of 12+. Nice interior, am sure it would be even better on a clear day!

I stayed in Orosi for 2 weeks and visited Franzisca at her at her store more than a couple times. Breakfast and coffee was great. I also rented a bike for a ride to Tapanti for a day from her.
She is real friendly and speaks several languages, if that's a hesitation to visit.
Thanks! Hope to visit again soon.
