Another of our favourite restaurants in Madeira (and we have tried quite a few over the years). This is a large, traditional and popular restaurant in the hills of Camacha. Loved by the locals and tourists alike.
My husband says the pepper steak is the best he has had; I enjoy the lamb chops with fruit. There is so much choice :- suckling pig, goat, wild boar etc. I also love the home made chicken broth- just like mum used to make. You are served with the whole pot -
enough for 3 people! Prices are reasonable too. Please visit and enjoy!

Visited this bar at numerous times of the day. They serve good coffee. The White House wine is very good. olives are served with your drinks.
It is busy around 5pm for afternoon drinks. But have always managed to get a table.
It can be a very lively place in the evening. DJ playing outside attracts the locals.
The burgers are very good. But unfortunately they have changed the tuna salad for the New Year and it lacks taste. Will be giving that a miss on my next visit. Great place shame someone thinks tuna with boiled potatoes and lettuce is a tasty plate of food! Why change something which was good?
Friendly efficient waiters.

Reference point on the island of Madeira for its location in the middle Mountains (Poiso). The Casa de Abrigo do Poiso is known for its famous Poncha and Acorda from the time of our grandparents. Casa de Abrigo do Poiso is to enjoy typical dishes from the Pearl of the Atlantic.
Friendly and warm place with good price and friendly waiters. Atmosphere was so nice, there was fireplace middle of the dinner room.
Mukava ja lämmin paikka. Ruoka oli hyvää ja hinta ok. Tarjoilijat olivat mukavia. Keskellä huonetta oli takka joka hehkui mukavasti lämpöä ja loi kivaa tunnelmaa.

A new Restaurant with a modern and minimalist space using traditional and local materials with endemic pieces. Food is local to the island of Madeira with a couple of Mainland and international dishes. A high quality service provided by our experienced staff from Los Angeles to London and Monaco. Without doubt a place to visit whilst in Madeira that will enhance your stay in the island.
We stayed in the appartment next door and tried this restaurant on our first night - it was so good that we went back several times. We were made very welcome by the staff and every time the food was excellent - particularly impressive was the tuna belly. The house wines were very acceptable and the whole meal was good value for money. We would recommend booking a table as the reastaurant is small and very popular with locals as well as tourists.Well worth seeking out.

PALADARES is certainly the most exciting Wine Bar in having the best wines and delicious tapas from Portugal. The atmosphere is electrifying. The owner, Abel, is a very qualified Wine Connoisseur and the best on Madeira Island. We had a fantastic evening and we were very pleased that we were recommended to this fantastic place.

Some of our specialities are served on hot Oak Planks. The hot Oak Planka maintain a nice temperature of the food during the time the meal is consumed but without any further cooking. Pay us a visit and you will be able to enjoy the best view Funchal has to offer while eating tasty meals prepaired with (antibiotic and groth hormone free) veal so called "Carne Mirandesa". If your preference is fish then we sugest our specialties, the wonderful Tuna fish grilled on charcoal grill or the Oven Baked Cod fish or the salmon. Our wines are carefully choosen and of high quality and taste. For Reservations visit our website or call us directly.
This restaurant was a suggestion of TripAdvisor App, and a very good one, I must say...
The restaurant is located on the top of the mountain, just above Funchal city center.
From the restaurant, it’s possible to have a 180* view of Funchal, including the big cruise ships (the big boats in the harbor).
The Owner of the restaurant is a local citizen, quite friendly, that will provide a quite good and fair description of Planka dishes, and will find time to have few minutes to talk with the visitors.
Once you finish your meal, the Owner will invite you to visit the roof top, where you can take amazing pictures.
I suggest you go around 1 hour before the sunset, so you can enjoy the transition from day into night.
The food is quite OK, although very particular as it is prepared in “low salt” approach, which provide a specific flavor to each plate.
We tried, salmon with a secret combination of aromatic herbs, and the meat was “Posta Mirandesa”, which is a Mainland traditional dish.
The price is mid-range, but the view and the friendly owner, makes it fair.
Enjoy!

We ate at Uva, Ristorante Cipriani and here in our three nights at Funchal. Though the other two were better in terms of ambience and views, Principal wins on food quality in what was a classy field.
The restaurant is just off the sea front in a side street and is still relatively new. The internal restaurant is long and narrow but very modern and can take groups. There is also an outside dining in the alley behind.
The service was very friendly and the waiter though a native of Madeira had a great English sense of humour.
The menu has a good variety and works on a fixed price per number of courses which they keep a track of for you.
It works out at half the price of Ristorante Cipriani and a little less than Uva, and the quality of food is a little better.
To start we had the beef tartare and bream ceviche followed by the duck with couscous and beef filet all deliciously cooked and with superb flavours. We had an good bottle of white and coffees all for €68 which I thought excellent value.
I’d recommend it for a very nice evening of quality food.

Excellent service and very good value. We went for the inclusive menu which included 3 courses and as much wine and water as you pleased, with appropriate wines being served with each course. The food was very good and beautifully presented. Prawns large and succulent with a divine sauce. Venison and Guinea fowl also very nice. We shared a red berry streusel and cheese platter, both of which were ample for 2. We are not easily impressed but this place is very good.
