It doesn't matter how many times we come here it always maintains the standard and that is excellent. A loose group of ex workmates use this restaurant as their catch up point every 4 months or so. Young service staff are polite and friendly, we always start with dumplings and then move on to shared dishes but really i would be happy to stay with dumplings because they are just so plump and full of flavour. The wine list may not be big but it has a good range and they are cheap when compared to other restaurants. Food prices are excellent and service is fast - we will return again and again

This is a good restaurant for those people who like to eat in a well presented and clean place. The food is Western style Chinese and Vietnamese and its a good place for locals and business folk to unwind after a hard days work. You can sit inside or outside. I have always enjoyed my meals here, but if you want Authentic Chinese and Vietnamese food there are much better places in Box Hill.

When I made a 6:30 booking I was informed we would need to leave by 7:30. It was the start of a very disappointing evening. The food was very westernised. The service was terrible. We were constantly interrupted with requests for decisions or clearing the table. Then to add insult to injury, we were told to leave even though there were two empty tables close by.
I would definitely not recommend this restaurant.

Beware of many restaurants who spoil the reputation of Peking ducks. A genuine Peking duck restaurant slices the whole duck in front of you, teach you how to wrap the fine Peking duck skin in thin crispy pancake, along with Spring onions, cucumber and sauce. I judge the grade of Peking duck package on the thinness and crispness of the duck skin and pancake, what the chef deliver with the rest of the duck we paid for- usually duck meat is cooked with noodles or vegetables. Duck soup is usually served as well. Genuine restaurants also allows customers to take some excess duck carcass home (great for stocks). Simon's Peking duck is doing well because of their genuine pricing and the entertaining and hands on owner who is known for spinning the pancakes accurately to the customers' plate. I rate them 4/5 for genuine portion. 3/5 for skill, 3.5/5 for taste, 4.5/5 for friendliness and 3.5/5 for overall satisfaction and 5/5 for free parking! For small eaters, it costs < $60 for the whole meal which feeds up to four small eaters or two big eaters! Hope it helps

Italian restaurant & pizza. Casual dining experience, family friendly & great value for money.
There is nothing particularly wrong regarding Cantina Centrale, the food is nice and that's it. Nothing spectacular that warrants more. Thought we were in trouble when we first arrived on a very hot Melbourne evening. We were placed down by the kitchen a metre from the cooking and not far from a raging pizza oven fire. It was extremely uncomfortable so we asked to be moved, which we were upstairs under some a/c. I really don't understand why you would place people there on such a hot night as it was so uncomfortable.Once we were upstairs things improved. The restaurant is in a lovely little street, and is quite charming. It has quite a limited menu and wine list, although very nice. The foccacia (really a garlic and cheese pizza) was nice as was the Arancini balls. The sauce was very similar, if not the same, that was on my wife;s gnocci. They were nice meals but again, similar to many restaurants. The servings were good, and they were reasonable prices. The wait staff were very accommodating and professional. The menu is mainly pasta based offering one fish of the day, and a meat dish. It was a nice evening, but I've been to much better. To be honest, not sure I'd go back.

At the time of this review, we have visited this place 3 times in the last one month since we knew about it.
The various dumplings were delicious. I particularly like the chives and fish dumplings. The fish and corn sauce rice was very tasty too. We also tried the chef-recommended Pak Ji rice. The taste is unique, but I would recommend this if you prefer sweet rather than
savoury dish.
The place is a crowded so it can be quite noisy.

It always makes me happy when the dumpling size is a 2 bite affair. Friendly, efficient service and delicious food. We had the Peking pork steamed dumplings, pan fried chicken and prawn dumplings with big meaty bits in them, mixed steamed dumplings and stir fried broccoli - because u should eat your greens. Recommend the pan fried as the dumplings are steamed but then nicely caramalised on one side in the pan.
Some dumplings come in a 8 or 15 serve, handy to try more varieties. Also check out the specials that are on paper on the back wall and take note that the stir fry dishes come out faster than the dumplings. Prices r very reasonable for excellent quality food
