Such a friendly place. The menu is set and well prepared. The orphans, that have been lodging here between 1545 and 1945, no doubt would have loved a meal like that. Nice atmosphere, very little mistakes in service are well compensated by the lovely and caring service. Most probably the best place in town. We loved it. If the weather is good start with drinks outside!

In the Northern provinces of The Netherlands, Pizza is served differently than anywhere else I've come across. People are accustomed to Italian style dough, topped with layer upon layer of thick savory ingredient.
As I have learned this style to be the default, growing up North, I'm always disappointed by the 'real' pizza and go as far as to import the Northern style Italian pizza all the way to Amsterdam.
But enough of an introduction, let's get to reviewing this restaurant!
The restaurant is situated in a quaint, cute building on the corner of one of the most central streets in Bolsward, in the historic downtown area, facing a canal and a bridge. The restaurant is generally packed so calling ahead for Reservations is absolutely recommended.
The interior is the way an Italian restaurant should look, cozy, busy, organized chaos in the open kitchen. (Don't make the mistake taking the side entrance, leading to the take-out section, which is offered just a sneak-peek into the restaurant from behind the bar, hahaha!)
The chairs are sturdy, comfortable enough for an hour or two continuous use, tables are a tad on the small size when fully packed, there's hardly enough room to keep your drinks alongside the pizzas without the chance of them tipping over.
The food is awesome! My personal favourite 'Northern' pizza is the 'Carbonara Speciale', though that is not to be found on this restaurant. A worthy replacement is the 'Possa Di Fassa', a monsterous large pizza filled with (and I'll have to translate roughly here for some of the ingredients) tomatoesauce, Mozzerella cheese, 'Ox sausage', salami, ham, chunks of beef steak and bacon strips. To make it even more complete, I have onion and Gorgonzola cheese added (also pondering a version with egg and Champignon mushrooms added alongside those extra toppings, though I fear it might collapse onto itself)..
The resulting Italian pizza is very savoury, the bottom has a bit of a problem soaking up all the juices the cheese and meat release during the baking process, all in all the thing is roughly an inch thick, or thicker where the steak bits are, and is pretty much eligable for doggiebagging half due to it's sheer size.
The taste is absolutely amazing and this brilliant concuction leads me to take 2 or 3 more as Takeout after a visit for reheating back in Amsterdam.
I would love this style of pizza to be available closer to home but the Takeout will have to do for now. So on every occasion I visit the area, I go by this restaurant to get this exact pizza (x3 or x4), it's a must-visit.
Word of caution, if you're used to the thin topping pizzas served in the rest of the world, this pizza might be too much for you and you better find something a bit more to your liking on their menu, which offers 80ish choices of pizza alongside of various other traditional Italian dishes.

We had a great dinner here last night with good food well prepared and presented. A couple of small details that could have been done better but overall very good and lovely service from Angelique, Ed and Noa. Would definitely come back!

Yes, this is an excellent restaurant and bar. Friendly owner and staff serving a really good choice of food (incl vegetarian options), beer and wine. Inside or outside it really is a very nice experience, particularly for lunch on a sunny, warm day.
Good parking either in car or boat! We'll go back and next time we'll be staying in the very nice looking motorhome/caravan site close by.

Having tried the best rated Indonesian restaurant in Amsterdam and being rather disappointed we decided to try our luck again this time in Sneek. A great decision!
Seated with a drink while our table was being set outside, service was prompt and very friendly and relaxed.
Again the menu was only in Dutch but a neighbour translated it for us and in the end we chose one of the Rice Tafel menus of which there were several depending on your choice of courses or number of dishes. The food was truly very very good with great flavours and a great range of dishes. A moderate wine list in terms of choice but not expensive.

A day out in Sneek involves also looking for a nice place for lunch. After visiting the "Fries Scheepvaart Museum" and the heritage liquor shop of "Weduwe Joustra", it was already high time for lunch; the veranda restaurant "Onder de Linden" made an attractive showing. Furthermore, the restaurant was still packed with customers, so they must do something right. Against heavy odds we found a nice table in a relatively quiet corner. The service of the staff was a bit hectic due to the popularity of the restaurant, however, the waitress was able to give polite service. I opted for the "heritage" Sneeker Uitsmijter" advertised on the advertisement board outside as an old Sneek recipe. What shall I say about the food. As for the Sneeker Uitsmijter, you can do only so much with fried potatoes, fried onions and eggs, but as it was it was well prepared, a bit like a hearty German breakfast. My travel companion had chosen the soup of the day and bread with a deep fried croquette. She complained about the amount of salt in the soup. Although the awareness of the harmful effects of the consumption of too much salt is luckily becoming main stream, many restaurants still put too large amounts of salt in the dishes. Tallying the hectic service, the mediocre food and the Dutch restaurant prices, I can only award a three point rating.

Picked this place due to proximity and T/A reviews.
Despite the menu being only in Dutch & German our waitress explained it all to us and was very patient.....as you'd expect.
Service was prompt, perfectly charming and attentive, absolutely no complaints.
Several of our party chose the smoked salmon starter filled with shrimp with the rest of us taking the duck prepared 3 ways - smoked, confit & ragout - all very good and nicely presented. For mains we went for the chateaubriand served for two people....a range of cooking preferences were done perfectly as was the béarnaise dressing.
A reasonably priced range of wines complimented the menu.
If I had to be critical a menu I English would have been good but with few English speaking visitors it's understandable that there isn't one .....which is true of pretty well every restaurant in Sneek!

This is a beautifully lit interesting restaurant. Really lovely decorations with a heavy religious theme. The staff couldn't be more helpful and the food excellent. Don't sit outside, go in and admire the surroundings.
